Helena reaches a forest clearing outside Dresden. Beyond the trees, a radio station crouches behind sandbags, its broken aerial mast jagged against the gray sky. Three Soviet soldiers guard the doors.
Two questioning soldiers, n1 lean-faced with close-cropped dark hair stand close together in long gray greatcoats, young adult men, n2 stockier with a broad, weathered face and a flattened nose with hollow faces and mud-stained boots. A third, older and broad-shouldered, watches the trees with a rifle held ready.

Soviet Soldier 1
The order says nobody enters. It does not say we wait here until nightfall.

Soviet Soldier 2
Lower your voice. The captain changed it twice already. Maybe he wants us confused.
Their dispute holds both men facing the station, rifles lowered a fraction. The older sentry remains apart, scanning the trunks and the strips of snow between them.

Helena Eichwald
The opening is narrow, but it is there.
Then the older sentry's head turns sharply toward Helena's hiding place. His eyes fix on the undergrowth, and one gloved hand tightens around his rifle.

Helena stays low beneath the wet branches, moving only when the wind troubles the pines. A sudden crack of remembered rifle fire jars her senses, and her hand clenches against the earth.

Helena Eichwald
The station has a rear door beneath the collapsed aerial shed.
Far seeing fractures the clearing into brief images: a rusted service path, a low rear door, and a narrow window boarded from within. The vision fades, leaving the route fixed in her mind.
She crawls along the treeline toward the shed, using the brush as cover. Her boot catches a dead branch, and the sharp snap carries across the clearing.

Soviet Soldier 3
There. At the trees. Did you hear that?
The older sentry, a weathered elderly man with a gray mustache beneath a fur-lined cap and a long gray greatcoat, turns, catching only a pale flash of Helena's beige scarf before the branches hide her again. She reaches the rear door beneath the shed, its latch rusted but intact.
“Can I unlatched the door lock quietly?”
YES (Even, rolled 11)

The rear latch gives beneath Helena's careful pressure, its rusted catch lifting with only a faint metallic whisper. The collapsed shed swallows the sound beneath the wind.
Across the clearing, the three Soviet soldiers remain near the station entrance. No head turns toward the shed, and the older sentry's attention stays fixed on the trees.

Soviet Soldier 3
Nothing. Just the wind through the branches.
His rifle lowers a fraction, though his shoulders remain tense. The questioning soldiers continue their low exchange beside the front doors, unaware that the rear entrance is no longer secured.

Helena Eichwald
The latch is free.
The door remains closed, its boards pressed against the dark beyond. From inside comes the weak electrical hum of the radio station and the dry tick of cooling metal.
For one quiet moment, the forest gives Helena exactly the opening she needed: concealment behind her, an unlatched door before her, and no alarm raised.
“I slip through the unlatched rear door quietly, closing the door behind me quietly as well”
FAILURE (Fair Stealth, rolled -1)
Helena slips through the rear doorway, one hand guiding the warped boards. A remembered rifle crack jolts through her nerves, and Shell Shocked makes her fingers twitch against the door.
Combat Reflexes take over before the door can slam. She catches its weight and eases it inward, but the lower hinge scrapes across the stone with a sharp metallic whisper.
The door settles almost closed, not silent. Outside, the older sentry turns toward the shed, his rifle lifting as the sound threads across the clearing.

Soviet Soldier 3
Inside the station? Check the rear.
Helena keeps the latch from clicking and retreats into darkness. Through the narrow gap, she sees the station's inner corridor: a stairwell descends toward a service tunnel, while a side door stands ajar beneath a faded maintenance sign.
The radio hum grows stronger below. Behind her, boots crunch toward the shed, making the open stairwell the only immediate route that does not return her to the clearing.
“I slip through the unlatched rear door quietly, closing the door behind me quietly as well”
SUCCESS (Fair Stealth, rolled +2)
Helena slips through the rear doorway and pulls it inward. The warped boards shift under her hand, stirring the remembered rifle crack that makes her fingers twitch.
Combat Reflexes steady the motion before the hinge can scrape. She catches the door's weight, guides it gently into place, and keeps the latch from clicking.

Helena Eichwald
The door is closed, and the soldiers have not seen me.
Shell Shocked leaves her breathing shallow and her hand trembling against the boards, but the reflex passes without a sound. Darkness seals the corridor from the clearing.
Outside, the Soviet soldiers remain by the station entrance and shed, their voices muffled by timber and wind. No boots turn toward the rear door.
Inside, the radio's weak electrical hum rises through the floor. The stairwell descends ahead, while the ajar maintenance door waits to the side.
