Adventure of Nanera 1

The hidden seam yawns open beneath the pool. Cold air climbs out of it, and the mist sinks low, as if the grotto is losing its breath.

Then the corruption gathers itself. Ink and light twist together, shaping a translucent protector with Nanera's own grace, but with hollow eyes staring into the void below.

The grotto shudders. Pebbles skitter across wet stone. Ardis braces at Nanera's side, while the reflected figure slides into a ready stance, mirroring hers perfectly.

The presence below answers with a pulse of cold chi, and the path forward becomes clear. If Nanera wants the source, she must first break this test without losing her center.

Nanera drives in with her staff, but the guardian slips inside the line and turns her force aside. A sharp strike snaps into her ribs, stealing her breath and rocking her back toward the seam. Ardis shifts closer, ready to catch her, while the Protector’s translucent form remains poised above the opening, its hollow gaze fixed on her stance. For the first time, its shoulders tense, as if testing whether she will rise cleanly or yield the passage.

Nanera snaps forward again, driving her staff through the guardian’s centerline. The translucent form shudders under the impact, its outline flickering where her ki lands, but it does not vanish. Instead, it drifts back from the seam with a thin, wavering recoil, as if weighing her resolve against the pull below.

Its shoulders loosen by a fraction, yet the opening beneath them keeps breathing cold mist into the grotto. Ardis stays close at Nanera’s side, ready but waiting, while the hidden passage remains dark and inviting, deeper than either of them can see.

Nanera lowers her staff and bows toward the seam, letting the pause speak for her. The mist curls around her feet as she asks permission to descend, her voice calm in the cold grotto.

The Protector inclines its head and steps aside from the opening. The drafty hidden passage breathes upward, no longer resisting her approach.

Nanera stands at the lip of the dark opening, the path below finally open to her, while the guardian remains quiet at her side and Ardis waits for her next move.

Nanera turns from the seam and gives Ardis a short, clear instruction to bring Azera to the grotto at once. The words land in the cold air like a bell note, practical and unornamented.

Ardis backs away from the opening, already moving with purpose toward the passage behind them, while The Protector keeps its attention on Nanera and the breathing dark below.

Nanera shifts her stance at the edge of the opening, staff angled low as the draft tugs at her robes. The hidden passage waits below, and the waterlogged stone seems to listen.

Ardis disappears from the grotto entrance with quick, controlled steps. Above, faint dragonlight flickers through the mist, and the open passage breathes colder with each pulse from below.
