Azera steps into the upper bamboo pool grotto, bronze scales catching the dim light as she turns toward the open seam. Cold mist rolls from below, and she begins to shape a protective barrier with both hands.
The barrier meets the draft and shivers. Dark chi presses back from the passage, low and stubborn, as if the grotto itself is holding its breath.

The Protector
Clear intent, Azera. The way opens only to those who do not waver.
Nanera remains near the edge of the pool, staff ready, watching the seam and the bronze glow gathering around Azera's arms. The cold wind tugs at her monk robes.

Azera
The seal is unstable, but it can still be forced into shape.
A pulse of resistance ripples through the air. The mist thickens for a moment, then parts around Azera's forming shield, leaving the hidden passage open beneath it.
“I help Azera stabilize the barrier”
SUCCESS (Good Healing Arts, rolled -1)

Nanera steps in beside Azera and lays a steadying hand into the flow of her barrier work. Her ki settles the shivering edge into a cleaner shape, like a palm smoothing wrinkled silk.

Azera
That rhythm... yes, hold it there.
The bronze glow firms. The cold draft still bites, but it no longer tears at the seal, and the open seam stays true beneath their hands.

The Protector
Good. The way remains open, and the chamber remains standing.
A sharp tremor runs through the stone underfoot. One loose pebble skitters toward the passage, and the pool rim gives a faint, warning crack.
Nanera draws the worst of the strain into her stance, but the effort pricks heat across her palm and leaves a thin sting in her forearm.

Azera
Now, while it is calm. The descent is still open.
“I descend into the passage”
SUCCESS (Fair Agility, rolled -2)
Nanera lowers her center and slips through the open seam, one hand skimming the stone for balance. The passage accepts her, but the floor shivers under her weight.
Behind her, Azera’s bronze glow tightens around the rim. The barrier holds, yet the strain snaps a hairline crack wider with a dry, sharp tick.

The Protector
Careful. The chamber below answers to intent, not force.
Nanera reaches the lower ledge and plants her staff against the wall. A sting travels up her forearm, and a faint smear of dust marks where her sleeve brushes the passage wall.

Azera
I can keep this steady for a moment. Do not linger on the threshold.
Cold air rises from below, carrying the same damp pulse as the anchor under the pool. Far above, Brenth’s shadow gleams once across the mist, then fades.

The Protector
If the seal stirs again, I will need your answer at once.
