2-6 lands on the grated service floor. Server racks hum on both sides, and the corridor ahead stays open, bright with sterile white spill. His cybernetic arm jerks toward a nearby data port, hungry as a magnet.

The Courier freezes behind him at the junction lip, pale and breathing hard. Below, heavy boots clang in the shaft, getting closer with each echo.

A red indicator blinks across the nearest rack, then spills into a warning strip along the wall. The maintenance network is awake, and it is watching.

2-6's twitching hand drags toward the port again, closer now, while the corridor's far end shows a flicker of access nodes and a possible route deeper into the monitored maze.

2-6 snaps a firewall into place, a hard red lattice that bites into the port handshake and shoves the arm’s hunger back into itself. The maintenance network hisses, denied access, while the corridor map blooms cleanly across his peripheral display.

The route lights up on the far wall, a thin service rung above the main corridor, reachable through an open ladder cut that the system has left unsealed. The smoking terminal in the hideout’s direction flashes in his memory as the network tries and fails to grab a clean trace.

The Courier shifts at the junction lip, eyes flicking from the shaft below to the newly revealed climb, boots braced as the pressure from underneath keeps rising but does not break through yet.

Above them, the red warning lights stutter once, then settle into a weaker pulse. The maintenance network keeps watching, but for this breath it only sees static, and the path up is open.
