The villagers lead Elidi off the path and into a hush of wet ferns and leaning trunks. Ahead, a spring glimmers under moss, but a black boulder crushes its lip, choking the water to a trickle.
The air tightens with static. Leaves tremble without wind. The Elder stops at a cautious distance, studying the stone as if it might answer him.

The Elder
This is the spring that feeds our herbs. It has dimmed since the stone fell. We hoped your strength might move it.
A Villager clasps their hands at their chest, bright with hope. Another Villager leans back, wary of the boulder, then of Elidi.

A Villager
If she can lift it, the whole grove may wake.
Elidi reaches the spring and the static prickles harder across her mossy skin. The boulder is not just heavy, it is rooted with old magic, as if the forest itself resists being disturbed.

Elidi
The stone is bound to the place, not merely resting there.
The villagers watch, afraid that Elidi's touch will heal the spring, or break something far older than their path.

Move the binding stone from the spring
“Elidi lifts the boulder and tosses it out of the way.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +3)

Elidi closes her fingers around the black stone and the spring answers with a sharp shiver through the moss. Water beads jump free along its base as she heaves, and the boulder tears loose with a groan like roots ripping from deep earth.
The trapped weight comes up fast in her grip, shedding wet dark flakes. The binding magic flashes once across its face, thin as spider silk, then snaps.
With one smooth motion, Elidi throws the boulder clear of the spring. It crashes into the fern bank beyond the stones, shaking loose leaves and old mud.
The spring surges awake at once. Clear water spills over the lip in a bright rush, washing over pale roots and polished pebbles that had been hidden beneath the choke.

The Elder
By the grove... the stone let go.
The Elder lowers his staff a little, stunned. The wary Villager straightens, eyes wide at the freed water, while the delighted one lets out a breathless laugh.
Where the boulder struck, a shard of old binding-rune lies split open in the mud, revealing a pale carved symbol beneath the black crust, something the villagers had never seen before.
