At the breach, violet roots glow through Rozah the Goblin’s skin like veins of moonlight. The cage around her hums, steady and hungry, while the camp holds its breath.

Rozah... if you want those roots out, now is the time.

Or let them take you fully. The forest already knows your name.

The tribe waits in a tense ring, weapons lowered but ready. The camp itself seems to listen, roots pulsing against palisade and mud alike.

She can still choose.

The violet light climbs higher over Rozah’s arms and axe, tugging at her like a tide. One path breaks the curse, the other crowns it.

Rozah stands at the edge of becoming, with the tribe watching her next move.

Rozah lowers her axe and breathes in the violet pulse instead of fighting it. The roots answer at once, loosening their grip and threading through her arms like obedient fire.

Cold. Alive. Mine.

The cage collapses inward, then blooms outward, not as a prison now but as a mantle of woven roots around her shoulders and waist. Mud slicks from the palisade in thin trembling lines.

By the tribe, she took it.

The pale horn at the breach gives a faint, rhythmic shiver, answered by the brass horn’s dull throb farther back in camp. The two sounds hang together for one breath, then settle.

Then the forest has picked its champion.

Rozah stands steady in the new hush, violet roots glowing along her skin, axe still in hand. The tribe does not rush her, and the magic does not lash out. It simply waits, bound now to her will.

Around the sealed breach, goblins begin to lower their weapons. The camp lives, the night loosens, and Rozah’s hard-won power leaves a scar of light across the mud.

She stands. We live.

The violet roots loosened from a cage into a mantle, bright and alive across Rozah's shoulders.

Then it is done. The forest has named its champion.

Good. Let it guard my tribe, not eat it.

The goblin camp lowered its blades and breathed again, the fear bleeding out into the dark. Rozah remained at the heart of the broken ring, bound to the forest's wild magic, but no longer helpless beneath it. She had chosen her burden, and the tribe could finally stand beside her in peace.
