Ketha steps fully into the ruined hall despite the falling dust, planting herself between Bottu and the retreating survivors. Her cracked ceremonial scale glows faintly against her russet chest.

They must see this, Bottu. The remaining kobolds need to witness their tyrant challenged, or fear will drive them back into hiding.

Behind her, the five survivors cluster at the tunnel mouth with Skara and Tessik, ready to retreat. Dust streams from the ceiling as the hatchery groans around them.

But do not let this become a long battle. These halls are already breaking. If the ice gives way, no victory will save them.

Vaelthurax lowers his scarred head, studying Ketha with one pale eye. A ridge of frost spreads across the floor between the dragon and the retreating kobolds.

Then hear my mercy, hatchling. I will spare the survivors if Bottu kneels now, abandons those relics, and submits to my rule once more.

Ketha’s claws tighten around the ceremonial scale. The survivors hesitate behind her, while Vaelthurax’s terms hang beneath the cracking roof and the relics burn with silent color.

“*I laugh at the offer.* “I’d rather die than ever be pressed back under your foot again.””

I’d rather die than ever be pressed back under your foot again.

Bottu laughs at the offer, sharp and fearless beneath the cracking roof. The five relics flare beneath his robe, and the frost ridge between him and Vaelthurax breaks apart.

Then die standing, little exile. I will not grant you the dignity of kneeling.

Vaelthurax spreads his wings, stirring a gale through the ruined hatchery. Ice peels from the walls, but the survivors retreat toward the outer tunnel under Skara and Tessik’s direction.

Ketha

That is the answer they needed to hear. Hold your ground, Bottu. We will get them clear.

Ketha raises her cracked ceremonial scale, and its pale light marks a stable path through the falling dust. The survivors reach the outer passage as Vaelthurax’s breath gathers frost across the hall.

“*It’s time to show my old tyrant everything I’ve gained on my journey so far. The heat of the Ruby Heart, the thunder of the Sapphire Fang, the cold of the Pearl Claw, the decay of the Onyx Scale, the poison of the Emerald Eye. I would not hold back in my battle against the dragon.*”

Bottu unleashes the five relics together. Ruby heat floods the hall, Sapphire thunder cracks through the ice, and Pearl cold locks the air around Vaelthurax.

The Emerald Eye spills virulent green radiance across the dragon’s scales while the Onyx Scale lays creeping decay over his wings and horns. The combined assault drives him back beneath the collapsing roof.

What have you become? Those fragments were never meant for a hatchling’s claws!

Vaelthurax’s frost-breath shatters before it reaches Bottu. Thunder ruptures the floor beneath the dragon, poison clouds his sight, and black decay weakens his stance until one wing buckles.

Ketha

Ketha

The relics are answering him! Bottu has broken the tyrant’s hold!

Beyond Ketha, the five survivors reach the outer passage with Skara and Tessik as the hall groans. Vaelthurax crashes onto one foreleg, battered and exposed before the kobold who returned.

“*Not enough. I will keep fighting. I am Tiamat’s chosen relic bearer, her future, the future of Draconic kind would rest with me! I will decide my own fate from now own!*”

Not enough. I will keep fighting. I am Tiamat’s chosen relic bearer. Draconic kind’s future rests with me. I decide my own fate now.

Bottu drives the five relics into one converging spell. Fire, ice, poison, lightning, and black decay coil around Vaelthurax, wrenching him from the shattered floor.

Vaelthurax

Vaelthurax

You claim a goddess’s future while standing on the ruins of your own birthright. Then let your choice bury us both!

The spell strikes with decisive force. Vaelthurax crashes through the rear ice wall into a frozen ravine, trapped beneath fallen slabs, his wings pinned and his breath reduced to a ragged growl.

The cost arrives at once: the relics tear their power from Bottu’s hands and leave his magic silent. His claws tremble, while the cracked hall sheds ice around the distant survivors.

Ketha

He cannot rise, Bottu. You won. But the relics have gone quiet, and the hatchery is still coming down.

Vaelthurax remains alive but immobilized beneath the ice, defeated and unable to pursue anyone. Ketha holds the escape path open as the ruined hatchery groans toward collapse.
