The hatch drops them into a low chamber of black water and hanging cables. Bluze wades first, the surface sucking at his legs, while the boy stumbles close behind with his flashlight held low.
The boy catches his breath wrong, a wet rattle in his chest, and nearly slips. Bluze steadies him before he goes under.

Bluze
The floor is uneven. The water hides holes.
Bluze shifts the boy up onto a drier strip of rusted piping along the wall. It bows, but holds. The chamber grows quieter around them, the drip of water and the boy's breathing filling everything else.

Jory
...Sorry. I thought I could keep up.

Jory
I just need a minute. Then I can walk again.
The flashlight beam wobbles over Bluze's shoulders, the tunnel walls, the dark water. No one is chasing them here. For the first time since the arena, the silence feels almost safe.

Keep the boy from worsening
“I pick uo the boy and hold him so he doesn't have to touch the water”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +0)

Bluze reaches under the boy's knees and back, then lifts him clear of the water in one smooth pull. The pipe above them groans, but holds, and his arms keep the boy aloft over the black surface.

Jory
You did not have to carry me too.
The boy clings to his flashlight with one hand and Bluze's shoulder with the other, trying to steady his breathing. A few drops fall from his soaked clothes into the water below.

Jory
It is warmer up here. Just a little.
The pipe shivers under the extra weight, and Bluze has to brace harder to keep them both balanced. The humming in the walls swells around them, soft as a distant engine.

Jory
If you set me down, I might manage a few steps later. For now, this is better.
Bluze holds him steady above the water, but the strain bites into his arms and a dull ache answers in his shoulders. Ahead, the tunnel narrows into darkness, and the boy waits for Bluze to decide whether to keep carrying him or search for a drier ledge.

Keep the boy from worsening
“I keep carrying him forward”
SUCCESS (Legendary Health, rolled +1)

Bluze keeps moving, one careful shift at a time, and the boy stays cradled above the black water. The pipe gives a tired creak behind them, but the tunnel ahead opens just enough for Bluze to carry him through.

Jory
The ledge is no longer behind them. Good.
The flashlight beam jitters across slick walls and broken brackets, then catches a slumped service shelf wedged beside the tunnel.
Bluze angles toward it, and the boy’s weight shifts against his arms. Water drains off the hem of the boy's clothes, but the shelf sits higher than the flood, dry enough to trust for now.

Jory
There. Set me there, if you can.
Bluze reaches the shelf and eases him down onto the rusted metal. The boy lands with a shaky breath, then keeps both hands on the flashlight, staying upright against the wall.

Jory
Warm enough to rest. For the moment.
The pipe hums overhead, and somewhere deeper in the dark, another sound answers it, thin and distant. The boy glances down the tunnel, waiting to see if Bluze notices it too.
