Coco remains crouched in the dense bush, Veyra drawn and glowing faintly in his hand. Sable’s hoofbeats fade among the woods, carrying her beyond the smoke and fighting.

Three fleeing travelers stumble along the shelter path, cloaks scorched and faces streaked with ash. Behind them, armed Beastfolk emerge through the haze, their banners hidden by firelight.

Help us! Someone is beneath the stones! Please, the ward is failing!

A young foxfolk woman points toward the cracked shrine basin, one hand pressed to a bleeding shoulder. Fallen stones block the narrow ravine entrance beside her.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Stop there! Step away from the shrine and show your hands!

The command comes from a mounted silhouette near the basin, but smoke obscures its colors and crest. The protective ward flickers blue, then throws a trembling ring across the stones.

Far behind him, Seris and Master Ilvaren remain in Sylvariel while Sable has fled into the woods. Coco stays hidden beside the ravine as the trapped voice calls again.

“I run out using the element of surprise, and I use Veyra As a magic projectile, I aim it at the man on the horse, and it shoots out a green bolt of energy, which knocks him off the horse and burns his clothes Then I go for the stones, and I try removing them”

Coco bursts from the bush before the mounted Beastfolk can react. Veyra flashes forward in his grip, its ordered runes igniting green.

A green bolt tears across the smoky shrine and strikes the rider squarely. He is thrown from the saddle, his outer clothes scorching as he hits the stones.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

What in the roots was that? Hold the line! Protect the shrine!

The startled mount bolts toward the ridge. With the rider down, Coco reaches the ravine entrance and plants both hands against the fallen stones.

Muscles bunch beneath his travel clothes as he heaves. Cracked blocks grind aside, shedding ash and blue sparks from the failing ward.

The passage is open! Quickly, help the others through!

Coco clears the final stone, opening the ravine entrance completely. The three travelers scramble toward the shelter path while the wounded rider struggles behind him.

This way! Keep low, and bring her with us! The ravine shelters us from the ridge!

The foxfolk woman stumbles against Coco’s shoulder, clutching her bleeding arm as he guides her through the shelter path. Behind them, the blue ward steadies around the shrine.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

You there! The travelers are escaping! Do not let the shrine fall!

Coco plants his feet at the ravine mouth and raises Veyra. Green, blue, and gold Aether pour into the saber, strengthening its ordered rings without blending their purposes.

The blade answers with a bright green radiance, casting clear light through the smoke. Its edge hums with disciplined power as Coco holds it ready.

That light is not theirs. Whoever you are, stand with us, and we can reach the crossing alive.

Run through the path. I’ll protect y’all. I’ll stay here and fight them.

Coco drives the foxfolk woman toward the ravine while the other travelers duck ahead. They pass beneath the steady blue ward and vanish into the sheltering shadows.

We’ll reach the crossing! Do not let them surround you!

The foxfolk woman disappears after the others. Coco turns at the ravine mouth, Veyra held across his body as smoke parts around the glowing blade.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Stranger, lower that weapon! You are interfering with a lawful containment!

More Beastfolk emerge through the firelight, armed with spears and curved blades. Their banners remain hidden, but their attention fixes on Coco and the guarded shrine.

Behind him, the blue ward seals the ravine path. Before him, the approaching line advances through ash and flame, while Veyra’s three ordered currents brighten in his grasp.

Coco raises Veyra toward the smoke and calls upon Vael. Green radiance floods the saber, then erupts upward in a pillar bright enough to turn every spear into a sharp black silhouette.

Vael manifests beside the ravine in a surge of dark force, his horned form towering between Coco and the advancing line. His chains lash outward as the swordlight fractures into beams.

The beams strike the ground around the Beastfolk soldiers, bursting into controlled explosions of light and earth. Spears fly loose, mounts rear, and the formation breaks without touching the sealed ward.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Hold your ground! Do not fire! That summon is under his command!

Vael’s chains coil around two fallen weapons and wrench them away. Blue shrine-light rolls across the stones, separating the stunned soldiers from the ravine entrance.

Vael

Vael

They are disarmed, Coco. The shrine remains standing. Give the order, and I will bind the rest.

Smoke thins around the mounted commander, revealing red-and-ochre scale armor beneath a torn cloak. He stares from Vael to Veyra, then slowly raises both empty hands.

“The beast folk captain, who's on a horse, is a lizard, and the people we're fighting are lizard folk But, anyways, I demand to know the captain's name”

The mounted commander remains astride his broad-scaled reptilian horse. Smoke peels away, revealing a middle-aged lizardfolk man with red-brown scales, a notched crest, and ochre armor beneath his torn cloak.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

I am Captain Ssarvek of the Embercoil Watch. You have disrupted a lawful containment and disarmed my soldiers.

He lowers his hands only slightly, eyes fixed on Veyra’s ordered glow. Around him, the lizardfolk soldiers remain separated from the shrine, weapons scattered across the stones.

Vael

Vael

His name is given, Coco. His soldiers are frightened, but none are advancing.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Now give me yours, sword-bearer. The shrine is failing beneath us, and whatever lies under those stones belongs to the border clans.

“Is Captain Ssarvek protecting civilians beneath the shrine?”

The blue ward shudders beneath the shrine. Through its translucent light, faint hands and frightened faces appear below the cracked stones, pressed against a sealed lower chamber.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Civilians are trapped beneath us. The Embercoil Watch holds this line while the clans argue over who may breach the shrine.

A muffled child cries from below, followed by a woman's urgent pounding. The soldiers glance toward the basin, fear replacing their earlier readiness to attack.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

The failing ward is the only thing keeping the lower chamber from collapsing into the ravine. Your strike saved the entrance, but it also weakened the seal.

Vael

Vael

His soldiers were guarding the trapped, not hunting the fleeing travelers. Their weapons remain scattered, and their attention returns to the ward.

Beneath the blue ring, a fresh crack crawls across the basin. Warm air rises through it carrying dust, panic, and the faint metallic chime of hidden chains.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

If you mean to investigate, sword-bearer, do it quickly. I will not surrender the shrine, but I will accept aid that gets those people out alive.

“Okay, I will leave y'all now. I thought y'all were attacking the fleeing people. My bad for misunderstanding. I wish to not interfere in this foreign conflict. I lead through the path where. The others flood, but I was with earlier”

Coco lowers Veyra and steps aside from the shrine mouth. Vael’s chains retract, leaving the scattered soldiers free to reclaim their weapons as Coco turns toward the shelter path.

Captain Ssarvek

Captain Ssarvek

Accepted, sword-bearer. Take the path and leave the shrine to the Embercoil Watch. We have no quarrel with you if you keep moving.

Coco leads through the blue-lit passage where the fleeing travelers disappeared earlier. The ward parts around him without resistance, and Vael follows close behind as smoke dims beyond the thorn tree.

Vael

Vael

Your misunderstanding is corrected. The captain’s soldiers guard the trapped below, while the fighting outside belongs to the clans.

The path descends into a shallow ravine sheltered by roots and stone. Ahead, the three travelers wait beside the foxfolk woman, all watching the distant ward-light through the entrance.

Behind Coco, Captain Ssarvek shouts orders as the basin cracks again. The shelter remains open, the border conflict recedes behind smoke, and the displaced travelers make room for him.
