Three days pass beneath Sylvariel’s living boughs. By choice, Coco remains in the kingdom, and Seris leads him into a secluded spellgrove where pale flowers glow around quiet stone circles.
An elderly elf man waits beside the central circle, tall and slender in layered indigo robes. His silver hair is braided with crystal beads, and one amber eye bears a faint rune.

Master Ilvaren
I am Master Ilvaren. I have studied the witnessed records, not your journal, and not the workings of the Wish. Those boundaries remain yours.

Seris
I will observe as witness and guardian. The agreement stands throughout this lesson, including your right to end it and request privacy.

Master Ilvaren
We begin with foundations. Draw the Aether around you into one harmless sphere. Do not force it, name it, or shape it through a spell.
The grove answers before the exercise is complete. Threads of green, blue, and gold gather around Coco’s hands, then settle into a single clear sphere that reflects every nearby leaf.

Master Ilvaren
Remarkable. You are not drawing Aether from the grove. It is adjusting itself around you. Tell me, Coco, what do you perceive?

“I describe exactly what the sphere feels like”
FAILURE (Great Perception, rolled -1)

Coco
The sphere feels warm at its center, cool at its surface, and impossibly deep between those two layers.
Coco narrows his attention to the clear sphere. Its surface remains smooth for a breath, then trembles as the colors inside separate into countless fine currents.
The sphere slips beyond a simple sensation. Green threads press toward his palms, blue threads recede, and gold gathers around the shape like a listening presence.

Master Ilvaren
You reached for its whole nature and nearly lost the distinction between contact and command. That is the near miss.
The clear sphere collapses into three hovering beads, each carrying one color. They no longer answer Coco’s hands, but their separate textures remain legible in the air.

Master Ilvaren
You have learned something useful. Aether does not present one sensation to you. You can examine each current separately without forcing them into a single shape.

Seris
The lesson has changed safely. You may study the three currents, or release them and end the exercise.
“I study the three currents separately”
SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled +3)
Coco studies the green, blue, and gold currents separately. His attention passes through each without blending them, revealing distinct rhythms beneath their colors.

Master Ilvaren
Green carries growth and renewal. Blue preserves distance and boundary. Gold responds to structure, memory, and meaning.
The green bead pulses like a living root, the blue bead folds space into layered depth, and the gold bead forms tiny repeating patterns like written script.

Master Ilvaren
You are not merely sensing Aether. You are distinguishing its purposes without imposing your own. That is an exceptional foundation.
As Coco completes the study, each bead leaves a faint afterimage in his perception. He can now recognize these three currents even when they are mixed together or hidden inside another working.

Seris
That knowledge is useful beyond this grove. It may help you notice when a spell disguises its nature, before it reaches you or someone under your protection.

Master Ilvaren
Release them when ready. The lesson is complete, and the distinction will remain yours.
