Thava sprints toward the center pillar, ignoring the heat radiating from his own blood-soaked armor. He jams his draconic claw into the interface port, the blue energy stinging his nerves like white-hot needles. The Automaton lunges, its rusted limb carving a screeching line across the floor as it closes the distance with terrifying speed. Thava grits his teeth, forcing his mind to hold the connection as the machine’s sensor arm locks onto his throat.

The console surges with a blinding cerulean glow. Data streams erupt from the pillar, searing the access code directly into Thava’s consciousness.

His draconic claw twists, ripping the interface free. The Automaton’s metallic fingers clamp tight around his throat, but the sudden dump of cooling coolant from the overhead pipes blinds the machine's sensors. The grip falters, and the creature’s red optics flicker with chaotic, erratic pulses. Thava drops to his knees, his lungs burning as he gasps for air. The floor shudders beneath him, tilting at a sharp angle.

The machine’s chassis sparks violently, its arm retracting as it begins to buckle inward under the weight of the shifting room. Thava stares at the flickering violet grid. The exit portal is mere feet away, but the bridge between here and the corridor is rapidly dissolving into raw, digitized static.
