The spiral stair opens into a vast round vault, and the same ancient haze Drix felt below the chamber hangs in the air like breath. Ahead, a smaller seal sits intact in the floor, but the stone around it is marked by old stress lines, like something once pushed through from beneath.

A robed figure stands over the seal, facing away. The cut of the robes matches the Hooded Figure's order, and for one tense heartbeat the whole vault feels like a trap waiting to be named.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

At last. You felt it too, did you not? The thing under the tower was never broken from outside.

They turn with a knowing smile. The Hooded Figure goes rigid beside Drix, while The Stranger stops short, suspicion flashing into grim recognition.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

It was anchored. A piece of it was planted here on purpose, then pushed through the seal to make a door. The tower was never the prison. It was the vessel.

Drix

Drix

The lingering presence beneath the stone was not waiting. It was already here.

If you are still standing with them, say it now. We are either on the same side, or you are in the way.

I form a barrier on myself

Drix draws the barrier tight around himself. Pale arcane lines snap into place against his skin, and the ancient haze skims off the wards like smoke off glass.

The seal below twitches once, hard enough to ripple the dust. The vault answers with a thin groan of stone.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

Good. You felt the seam correctly. The breach was staged, and you were meant to notice.

Then say who did it.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

Not here. Not until you choose whether you want truth, or silence.

The barrier holds, but it leaves a faint burn across Drix’s palm where the magic locks in. The robed figure keeps one hand near the trembling seal, watching Drix as if measuring what the ward reveals.

I form a fireball and closer my barrier around condensing it into a razor sharp disk and launch it at the neck of the hooded figure

Drix tightens the barrier and twists his casting into a flat, whirling disk of heat and light. It snaps free toward the robed figure’s throat, clean and fast.

The strike lands, but the warding skin around the figure takes it in a bright, hissing flare. The vault flashes white, and the smell of scorched stone sharpens.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

So, that is your answer.

The robed figure staggers half a step, one hand flying up to the edge of the collar as the seal below gives a hard twitch in sympathy.

The Stranger

The Stranger

Drix, stop. That ward was not for show.

The barrier around Drix tightens under recoil, then steadies. In the same instant, the robed figure’s calm breaks into cold focus, and the vault seems to listen.

You have seen enough to know the breach was arranged. If you want the name behind it, you come down and choose.

Ok let's go

Drix lowers the edge of his casting and steps down into the vault proper, the barrier around him humming like a held breath. The robed figure does not retreat, only shifts to make room beside the twitching seal.

Drix

Drix

The seal is still reacting to us.

Stone dust falls from the ceiling in thin threads. The smell of scorched rock hangs heavy as Drix closes the distance, staff ready, spellbook tight to his chest.

The Robed Figure

The Robed Figure

Good. Stand where you can see it.

The robed figure gestures to the floor seal, then to the dark seam around it, where the pressure beneath seems to watch back. The Stranger stiffens at the far side of the vault, and the Hooded Figure holds position near the stair opening.

The Stranger

The Stranger

Do not let them steer you, Drix. That thing is shaping the room around us.

Then hear the truth before you choose. I staged the breach to draw you here. The name you want is the Architect.
