Time passes, and the settlement grows around Asbjorn’s hearth. A blacksmith’s shop, healing hut, cultivated fields, and a small seer’s house now stand beside the newer homes.
The Shieldmaiden oversees the finishing work while the scarred Úlfhéðinn checks the roads and buildings. The wolf-pelted seer studies the new house, and the restrained Wolf Spirit moves wherever Asbjorn goes.
The Shieldmaiden
The roofs are sound, the stores are filling, and the fields promise a harvest. Even the healing hut is ready for those who come after us.
A weathered beam from the old crofter’s home is fitted beneath the seer’s roof. As the Úlfhéðinn scrape away soot, unfamiliar hooked markings emerge in the grain.
Úlfhéðinn 2
These are not a mason’s marks. I have seen their shape in the winter oath that bound the Wolf Spirit to this place, or to those who lived here before us.
The Wolf Spirit pauses beside Asbjorn, its pale form tightening against the unseen restraint. The hooked lines seem darker beneath the soot, joining the new house to an obligation older than the village.
The Shieldmaiden
Then our foundations carry a promise we did not make. Asbjorn, will you have the seer study the markings before we cover them?
“I nod then I go to the seer "We have some markings that are carved into one of our beams....can you help decipher what it means?"”
SUCCESS (Good Theology, rolled +2)
Asbjorn nods and crosses to the seer beneath the newly raised roof. The wolf-pelted warrior sets aside his spear and turns toward the soot-darkened beam.
Asbjorn Bjornulfsson
We have markings carved into one of our beams. Can you help decipher what they mean?
Úlfhéðinn 2
Aye. Let me see them in full, not merely the shapes the soot leaves visible.
He scrapes away the remaining black crust with a knife’s dull edge, exposing the hooked lines. His fingers trace their turns while the other Úlfhéðinn watches from the doorway.
Úlfhéðinn 2
They describe a binding of guardianship. The old household pledged shelter to those who entered under its roof, and the Wolf Spirit was set as witness and keeper.
Úlfhéðinn 2
This is no claim that the house belongs to the spirit. It is an oath tied to the hearth itself. If your settlement honors shelter, the markings call the old obligation renewed.
The seer withdraws his hand and looks toward Asbjorn, his answer settled. Beneath the fresh roof, the old beam now reads as a charge upon the village: protect those who come in need.

“I look at the Wolf Spirit as I pet him "So that's what you were meant for my spiritual friend. Well I welcome you to our home given you've been with me since I first met the Úlfhéðinn."”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +0)
Asbjorn turns from the marked beam and rests his hand upon the Wolf Spirit’s pale head. Its restrained form remains still beneath his touch, watching him in quiet attention.
Asbjorn Bjornulfsson
So that is what you were meant for, my spiritual friend. I welcome you to our home, since you have been with me from the first moment I met the Úlfhéðinn.
The Wolf Spirit lowers its head beneath his palm. The unseen tether slackens, no longer pulling against the house, and the old beam’s markings seem to belong naturally beneath the roof.
The Wolf Spirit
Then the hearth receives me, and I receive the hearth. I will guard the door, witness the shelter, and walk beside you without contest.
The wolf settles beside the beam, its pale body relaxed for the first time beneath the new roof. The seer studies the change while the scarred envoy lowers his spear in solemn acknowledgment.
Úlfhéðinn 2
The old obligation is renewed, then. This house has accepted its guardian, and the guardian has accepted your people.
The Shieldmaiden
A fitting welcome. Let the village remember this well: shelter is not merely timber and walls, but a promise kept by every soul beneath them.
“I smile then I kneel to meet The Wolf Spirit face to face "I thank you my friend for being my guide and for your divine presence." I stand and then start etching runes dedicated to the gods into the door frame.”
SUCCESS (Fair Craft (Blacksmith), rolled +0)
Asbjorn smiles, then kneels before the Wolf Spirit until they face one another beneath the new roof. The pale guardian watches him without moving.
Asbjorn Bjornulfsson
I thank you, my friend, for being my guide and for your divine presence.
The Wolf Spirit
Your thanks are received. Walk rightly, and my guidance will remain beside you.
Asbjorn rises and asks the wolf-pelted seer for a carving knife. The seer passes one over, and Asbjorn sets its edge to the door frame.
He etches runes dedicated to the gods into the wood, each mark joining the doorway to the village’s vows of shelter and service. The work succeeds, though the hard grain dulls the borrowed knife and leaves one lower rune visibly uneven.
The Shieldmaiden
A worthy dedication. Let every person who enters remember that the gods are honored here through deeds, not carved words alone.
The Wolf Spirit settles beside the completed runes, its tether quiet. The seer examines the blunted knife while the Shieldmaiden rests a hand against the marked frame.
