After calling ahead, Alex and Marcus arrive at Nina Patel’s legal office with the sealed evidence untouched in Alex’s backpack. Dev Null, Bruno, Claire, and the protected household remain elsewhere, outside the meeting.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

The evidence stays sealed unless counsel decides otherwise. Today, we can document the access attempt, preserve the audit trail, and report the credential misuse through protected channels.

Nina closes the office door and places two folders on the table: one marked legal hold, the other housing and personal security. Marcus sits beside Alex, watchful and composed.

Nina Patel

Lawful reporting can trigger an investigation, compel preservation of North Harbor records, and establish protections against retaliation. It cannot guarantee immediate arrests or reveal who authorized the intrusion.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

For housing, we can examine a quiet studio through a vetted landlord, a short-term furnished rental under controlled contact details, or a relocation referral outside your usual routines.

I want an arrangement that does not put a sign over our door saying Alex has left. Separate addresses, limited forwarding information, and no public announcement.

Nina nods and opens a blank planning form. The path forward is concrete but conditional, requiring Alex’s choices about timing, budget, distance, and how much lawful protection to request.

✓ Quest Accepted

Report the credential misuse through lawful channels

“"First things first. Let's clear the air on the credential misuse by Gideon Pike. H was using Rachel's credentials to try and gain access to Samuel's records. I can't let that slide, Nina. My housing can wait. This takes precedence," you say gently, pushing aside the housing/personal security folder.”

First things first. Let’s clear the air on Gideon Pike’s credential misuse. He used Rachel’s credentials to reach Samuel’s records, and I can’t let that slide. My housing can wait. This takes precedence.

Alex gently pushes the housing and personal security folder aside. The sealed evidence remains untouched, while Nina turns the legal hold folder toward him and Marcus.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

Agreed. We will document Pike’s emergency authorization, Rachel’s credential misuse, Terminal Twelve, and the relay path, then report it through protected lawful channels.

Alex's father

Alex's father

Housing can wait if this protects Samuel and Rachel. But we do it through Nina, not by chasing Pike ourselves.

Nina records Alex’s priority in the case notes, attaches the preserved audit trail, and prepares a restricted submission for investigators and North Harbor’s oversight authority.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

The report is ready to transmit with the evidence sealed. It will request preservation of the relevant records, investigation of Pike’s approval, and protection for Rachel and Samuel.

With Marcus’s witness statement and Alex’s preserved copies attached, Nina sends the protected report. A confirmation number appears in the intake record, establishing the lawful accountability track.

“"And then, there is this." Taking off your backpack, you open it, and pull out the sealed paper bag, setting it on the table. "This was recovered from the back alley near the staff entrance of the Dev Null Cafe. With legal permission, I'd like to open it before you."”

And then, there is this. This was recovered from the back alley near Dev Null’s staff entrance. With legal permission, I’d like to open it before you.

Alex removes his backpack, takes out the red-sealed paper bag, and places it on Nina’s table. The seal is intact, marked only by faint alley dust.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

Permission granted. We will photograph it first, preserve the seal in the file, and open it here under the legal hold.

Nina records the bag’s condition and timestamp. Alex cuts the tape cleanly, unfolds the paper, and reveals a compact flash drive, a handwritten access code, and a brass key stamped 12.

Nina Patel

Nina Patel

That is more than discarded material. The key may identify a physical lock tied to Terminal Twelve, while the code could preserve access evidence. Neither leaves this office.

Alex's father

Alex's father

You brought this to counsel instead of trying it yourself. Good. Whatever it opens, Nina can make sure the discovery protects Rachel and Samuel rather than exposing them.

Nina places the drive, code, and key in separate evidence sleeves. The handwritten code includes a date and the initials G.P., giving the report a direct lead to Gideon Pike without requiring Alex to pursue him.

“"Off the record? I wanted to open it. Gideon is playing games with me and causing a disturbance in my life. But I wanna do this the right way. Not for me, but for Samuel." The thought makes you quickly pull out your burner phone, and text Adrian. 'Alex here, just checking in. Everything good?' You set the phone on the table, tapping the button on your freshly charged AI glasses. "Jarvis, forward all incoming text to my sight, please." You then turn your focus back to Nina. "So what will all of this bring, considering the amount of corruption I have brought to light in the last 72 hours," you ask plainly.”

Off the record, I wanted to open it. Gideon is disturbing my life, but I want to do this properly for Samuel.

Alex draws out his burner phone and texts Adrian Cole, “Alex here, just checking in. Everything good?” He sets it beside the evidence sleeves, then taps the freshly charged glasses.

Jarvis, forward all incoming text to my sight, please.

The glasses confirm the forwarding rule and display Adrian Cole’s reply a moment later: Samuel remains secure, and Nina’s report is logged. The setup consumes twelve percent of the glasses’ charge.

So what will all of this bring, considering the amount of corruption I have brought to light in the last 72 hours?

Nina Patel

It can bring a formal investigation, mandatory preservation of North Harbor and Harbor Meridian records, scrutiny of Gideon Pike’s authority, and protection for Rachel. It may also expose institutional failures without producing immediate arrests.

Nina adds the flash drive, access code, and brass key to the restricted submission, preserving their chain of custody. Marcus watches quietly as accountability becomes a process larger than any one person.

“"Fair enough." You check the time; only an hour before you meet with Claire. "I'll let you handle this from here out. I have a life to try and get back to. I'll be home later, Dad," you say with a smile, shouldering your backpack, and had out of the office, directly to the train station to thee Square, and to the promised meeting point with Claire. You've broken into some of the highest security systems on the planet, and yet meeting her again makes you slightly nervous. You know she needs to hear the truth about you, if this is going to go any further.”

Alex smiles at Marcus, shoulders his backpack, and leaves Nina’s office. The sealed evidence remains with counsel, while the housing folder waits for another day.

He checks the time outside and heads directly for the train station. The route to Carnegie Square is ordinary, but every minute brings Claire’s meeting closer.

I have broken into the highest-security systems on the planet, and this still makes me nervous.

The train carries Alex through Boston beneath bright station lights and darkened windows. He keeps his backpack close, leaving Gideon Pike and North Harbor behind for now.

Alex reaches Thai Blue Garden near Carnegie Square with time to spare. The restaurant’s warm windows glow against the evening traffic, and Claire waits near the entrance.

Claire

Claire

Alex. You made it. I was starting to wonder whether the café, your glasses, or another emergency had claimed you first.

Tell Claire the truth she needs for safety

“"Wouldn't have missed this for the world. You look great, by the way," you say with a smile, opening the door for her. Inside is a sensory overload of scent; cumin, garlic, peppers and spices searing in the restaurant. You approach the young lady that is the hostess, smiling softly, and in near-perfect Thai you say, "We have a reservation, but we would like private accommodations, please." Claire looks at you a moment, a bit shocked. She doesn't know what you said; the fact you were speaking the native tongue of the lady does. You turn to her, smiling faintly. "We have a lot to discuss, and I wanted to ensure privacy," you answer her unspoken question.”

Alex smiles and opens the restaurant door for Claire. Inside, cumin, garlic, peppers, and searing spices layer the air into an immediate sensory rush.

At the host stand, a young adult Thai woman in a dark green blouse and black trousers looks up, her braided hair pinned neatly behind one ear.

Of course. We have a quieter corner table available. Please follow me.

“"How did your meeting go," you ask, as you sip the oolong tea offered by the hostess. You really do like Claire, and after what you tell her, this may be the last time you see her, depending on her reaction to the truth about you.”

How did your meeting go?

Alex sips the oolong while keeping his attention on Claire. The tea is hotter than expected, and he lowers the cup after a brief, controlled wince.

Claire

Claire

It went well. We finalized the arts center schedule, assigned the remaining tasks, and nobody tried to turn a planning call into a crisis.

Claire

Claire

He is composed, but not relaxed. Whatever he needs to tell me matters more than the restaurant or the tea.

Claire

Claire

You asked about my meeting, but you look like you are carrying one of your own. Is this where you tell me what has been happening?

“You smirk, chuckling softly, and set your cup down with a nod. "It is." You take in a deep breath, and sigh. "I really like you Claire, but you need to know a few things about me, if this is to continue between us." Before you say more, a waiter approaches, asking if you are ready to order. You nod. "Prik Pow beef, and an order of satay," you say without even looking at the menu. Claire blinks; she was not expecting you to be so versatile. "I'll have the Pad Thai with shrimp, please," she says, handing her and your menu to the waiter. Once he is gone, she looks at you, really looks at you for a long moment. "Alex, what is going on? I mean, I like you too, but I need to know I am not in harm's way."”

Claire

Claire

Alex, what is going on? I like you too, but I need to know I am not in harm’s way.

“"You're not, unless you keep dressing like you are going to a Ren fair," you smirk. And then, you tell her what she needs to know; not every vital detail, but enough for her to know that you have speared into a deep conspiracy that will shake the foundation of a major corporation, and you hold the nails to their coffin in a secure location they could never touch.”

I’ve uncovered a deep conspiracy tied to a major corporation and compromised institutions. It reaches into protected records, financial systems, and people’s identities.

Alex Mishyma

I am not going after anyone tonight. The evidence is secured with counsel, sealed and preserved where the people behind this cannot touch it. They can still cause trouble, though.

He keeps the details necessary for safety and leaves out Samuel’s identity, operational methods, and the names of those still protected. His charged glasses remain dark in their case.
