Kaelus drops the guide’s mask at last. His stare locks on the bundle in Imogen’s hands, hollow with a starving need, and he wades into the cold water as if it cannot touch him.

Kaelus

Kaelus

Give it to me. It is the only vessel left for what was taken from me.

The sigil on his wrist burns black-green. The bog answers with a wet shudder, and the old circle beneath the surface seems to inhale.

Elias

Elias

Move away from her, Kaelus. Right now.

Elias steps between them, weapon raised, while the water around the stones ripples outward in tight, eager rings.

Then the truth shows through Kaelus’s face, not in words, but in the way he watches the bundle like a hunger given hands. He is not a guide at all. He is the thing’s thrall, come to reclaim its vessel and finish the manifestation.

The bog convulses. Somewhere below, something that remembers the Spiritualist’s sinking body presses upward, as if the mire itself is waiting for the handoff.

✓ Quest Accepted

Protect the wax-wrapped bundle from Kaelus

Can I use the bundle's sigils to push Kaelus back?

NO (Likely, rolled 74)

Imogen traces the sigils on the wax, but the markings remain cold and inert against her touch. The bundle offers no defense, its power entirely turned inward to contain the entity within.

I hold the bundle away from Kaelus

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Imogen snaps the bundle back against her chest and turns her shoulder into Kaelus's path. He stops short, fingers hovering in the cold air where it would have been seized.

Kaelus

Kaelus

No. He is already listening.

The words land wrong. Beneath the water, the buried stones thrum once, like a pulse answering him.

Elias

Elias

That is not a man speaking cleanly. Look at his wrist.

Kaelus flinches, and the sigils on his skin twitch under the swamp light. A thin, wet cry drifts up from the seam in the earth, childlike and hungry.

Kaelus

Kaelus

If I let go of it, it wakes fully.

He lowers his hand instead of taking the bundle, rigid with strain, as if held by something tugging from below. The water around the stones shivers toward him, not away.
