Water ripples over the hatch floor as Blue and the others crowd the threshold. Beyond the grate, settlement lights glow dimly through rust and steam, close enough to promise safety, close enough to hide a lie.
The Scavenger keeps one hand on the child’s shoulder and one eye on the opening, as if weighing escape against the promise he made. Red squares up beside Blue, fierce and ready. Yellow watches the child, already measuring fever and breath.

The Scavenger
I brought her here. That was the deal. Let me take her to the med ward, and I walk away.

Red the Colossus
Walk away later. First, you prove you’re not selling her out.

Yellow the Colossus
If the settlement is going to help her, they need to see she is not alone. Stay calm. Let me speak to them.
A pair of settlement guards appear above the hatch rim, silhouettes against yellow light, staring down at the Colossi, the child, and the battered scavenger. The moment hangs on whoever moves first.
Blue stands at the center of it all, weak but unbroken, the reformed hammer heavy in hand and his path to the child, the guide, or the guards all still open.
“I call up to the gaurds saying we found the child sick and dying and brought her here to save her life. I explain how the scavenger lead us here and ask he be given the recognition he deserves. I end my statement bydeclaring that all I, Red and Yellow ask for in return is to be allowed to leave peacefully as allies of their settlement.”
SUCCESS (Great Negotiation, rolled +0)

Blue the Colossus
We found her sick and fading, and brought her here to save her life. The scavenger guided us. He deserves recognition for that. We ask only to leave peacefully as allies.

Settlement Guards
You bring a dying child to our hatch and expect trust. Hold there.

Yellow the Colossus
The child needs a warm bed and clean hands, not a debate at the rim. Let us hand her over, and I will answer for the rest.

Settlement Guards
Lower the rifles. Open the latch. The child goes to med ward, and the guide gets a token for his part.

The Scavenger
He exhales hard, one hand slipping from the child’s shoulder as if he has been holding his breath since the desert.

Red the Colossus
Good. Then do not make us regret carrying her this far.
A guard hook scrapes the hatch mechanism, and the opening widens with a groan. Blue’s scorched armor flakes a little more where the old drain marked it, and the shallow water shivers as the first guard reaches down to receive the child.

The Scavenger
They have her. That's enough. I'm staying with my people.

Yellow the Colossus
Good. We came for the child, not a war.

Red the Colossus
Then let's move before the hatch closes on us.

Blue the Colossus
We did what mattered. Hold together, old frame.
Blue turned from the hatch as the guards carried the child inside and the settlement sealed itself back into silence.
The scavenger remained behind, finally at peace with the trade that saved a life. Blue and the others left the settlement with their duty complete, carrying the weight of their failing chassis into the long road beyond. The child was safe, and this chapter ended with the hatch shut and the storm kept out.
