The chamber shudders. Frost cracks across the floor in bright veins, and the severed shadow bridge unthreads into smoke. Violet light spills harder from the doorway, cold air knifing through the room as stone groans overhead.

Kaelith
Patch, move. I have the blade. Get to the door.
Kaelith braces himself against the sword’s hissing mist, both hands locked around the hilt. The weapon strains like a living thing, tugging toward the rune-lit threshold, hungry even now.

Patch
The floor is giving way fast.
A fresh crack runs beneath Patch’s feet. Chunks of ice and dust spill into the dark below, and the open maw of the doorway breathes colder, brighter air into the chamber.

Kaelith
If we keep it, it will keep calling. If we drop it, it may wake whatever is behind that door.
He glances at Patch, then at the sword, jaw tight, waiting on her decision while the chamber keeps collapsing around them.
“I rush for the doorway”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -3)

Patch bolts for the doorway as the floor bucks under her boots. Stone dust snaps past her face, and the violet glow swallows her in a burst of cold.
She clears the jagged threshold in one hard leap, the dagger still tight in her hand, boots scraping on the far side.
Behind her, Kaelith lunges after the falling room, the cursed blade clenched against his chest. Frost flakes from its edge even in the heat of the collapse.

Kaelith
Go. Move.
The chamber answers with a long, grinding crack. A slab of stone shears loose and slams down where Patch just stood, sealing the maw half-shut in rubble and blue light.
Dust rolls over them both. Patch is out, the vault is not, and the sword’s frost still smokes faintly in Kaelith’s grip.

The chamber shudders as frost crawls over the cracked stone.

Patch
I am sorry, Kaelith.

Kaelith
Go, then. Live with it.
The slab crashes down between them, and the sword's cold pulse fades into the ruin.
Patch made it out breathing, shaken, and alone with the weight of what she left behind. Behind her, the sealed chamber continued to unravel, carrying Kaelith and the cursed sword into silence. The escape was hers, but so was the cost, and it settled into her like winter after fire.
