Adventure of Patch 1

Three weeks of fog and footpaths have softened the vault’s memory, but not erased it. Patch moves through the Whispering Woods, where every trunk seems to lean closer and listen.

A shape in grey steps from the mist and stops her with one hand raised. The Silent Collector holds out a broken shard of rune-carved stone, its edge still faintly lit.

The shard is a piece of the rune-door Patch broke open, but it is also a threat, a claim, a reminder that the collapse was not the end of the binding.

Behind the stranger’s stillness hangs the shape of consequences, Kaelith trapped behind stone, and something far larger waiting to collect what Patch left behind.

Patch lowers the shard in her grasp, and the faint light along its broken edge gutters out. The pull in the air eases at once, like a held breath finally let go.

Their voice is calm, but the woods seem to notice. The fog loosens around Patch, and the cold pressure behind her ribs fades by degrees.

A tremor passes through the ground, faint but real, as if the sealed stone far away still remembers the blow that split it. The shard no longer points at Patch, only lies dead and ordinary in the stranger’s hand.

For the first time, the collector’s stillness looks less like a threat and more like a verdict delivered. The mist hangs between them, waiting for Patch to answer or walk away.
