Arrival in the Market Plaza

Violet static spits around Yllamaris as the rift yanks him free of the collapsing cavern. He slams onto warm cobblestones in a sunlit plaza, breath knocked loose, blade still in hand.

Around him, the city roars with trade, goats bleat, wheels rattle over stone, and vendors shout over one another beneath bright cloth awnings. The nearest flower stall wilts at the edge of his cloak's necrotic stain.

By the saints, look at his sword! Someone help him up, before the guards decide he's a curse.

A young woman with flour on her sleeves braces near a stack of apples, while a gray-cloaked guard turns from the lane, frowning at the smoking tear in the air behind Yllamaris.

Yllamaris! Gods, you're alive. Move, now. That crack is closing, and if you stay in the open they'll make a spectacle of you.

The rift shivers shut behind him, leaving only a hiss of violet sparks. Yllamaris is in a new city, but the blade in his grip still throbs like it remembers the dark.

*I put the blade away and become one with the shadows hiding in plain sight. Any rumors about me from the elves here or am I currently safe? Also, why is Bram here?

Arrival in the Market Plaza

Yllamaris lowers the rune-blade and lets the crowd’s noise swallow him. The purple sheen fades as he slips into the market’s moving shadows, just another hood between awnings and baskets.

The gray-cloaked guard keeps looking, but his gaze slides past Yllamaris as a porter blocks the lane and a cart creaks between them.

Bram

Bram

There you are. I thought the plaza had swallowed you whole.

Marin

You know him? Good. Then take him somewhere quieter before someone starts asking the wrong questions.

Bram

Bram

I’m here because your name crossed my path twice in one hour. Once from a whisper, once from trouble. That is never a pleasant sign.

No elven names ride over the crowd. Right now, he is not spoken of aloud.

Bram

Bram

Come on. Tell me what fell out of the sky with you, and whether you meant to bring it to my city.
