The Spire's Corruption Revealed

Elowen’s flickering form steadies again in the wind-stirred grass, one arm lifted toward the jagged spire far beyond the fields. The same rot Yllamaris has been fighting seems to answer it, a sour pulse under the soil.

Elowen

Elowen

There. That is the wound. Not your blade. Something beneath the plain is feeding the corruption.

The Elder’s distant flicker weakens, then points the same way, as if confirming what Elowen sees. The gray-cloaked guard slows in the grass, suspicion giving way to caution at the sight of the spire.

What is buried out there?

Yllamaris

Yllamaris

The rot is coming from the ground, not only from the blade.

A thin seam of violet light crawls across Yllamaris’s sword, then fades. Beneath the field, something vast and old seems to shift, as if the land itself remembers a buried path.

I guess I'll go investigate

SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled +2)

The Spire's Corruption Revealed

Yllamaris lowers his blade and slips forward through the wind-bent grass, angling away from the guard and the flickering figures. The plain opens under him in ripples of dark soil and silvered stems.

Yllamaris

Yllamaris

The ground is wrong here.

He pauses at a shallow dip in the field, where the soil has split into an old seam. Thin violet light leaks between roots, then vanishes as he kneels beside it.

Beneath the turf, something immense presses against the earth, not rising, but breathing. The grass above the seam trembles in a slow circle around him.

Elowen

Elowen

Yllamaris, do not linger there.

Yllamaris traces the split with one gloved finger, and the hidden pulse answers with a brief, hungry throb. The violet runes on his sword flicker once, then settle.

Elder

Elder

That is no ordinary buried thing. It is a wound with a heart.

The seam widens just enough to reveal a black, rune-scored shape below the roots, then the grass shifts and swallows the view. Elowen and the Elder both stare toward the same spot, while the guard tightens his grip and waits for Yllamaris to choose his next move.

*I attempt to heal it

SUCCESS (Great Arcana, rolled +0)

The Spire's Corruption Revealed

Yllamaris lays two fingers to the split soil and lets his magic sink inward. The violet pulse below meets him, then softens, as if a clenched wound has been coaxed open.

Yllamaris

Yllamaris

The runes are not feeding it. They are holding it shut.

Light threads through the seam in fine silver lines, knitting root to root. The hidden throb steadies, no longer hungry, but slow and guarded.

Elowen

Elowen

You are mending it.

The grass around Yllamaris stops trembling. Where the black shape pressed up from beneath, the earth smooths over, leaving only a faint rune scar in the turf.

Elder

Elder

That is no killing blow. It is a seal, and it knows your touch.

The Gray-Cloaked Guard lowers his blade a fraction, still wary, as the distant spire answers with a dull, buried pulse. The field goes quiet, but the plain still points toward that far-off wound.

"this is what I was trying to tell everyone... But no one listens... They only fear what they don't understand... And they wish to kill me... So be it..." *I head towards the source
