Golden script streams from the archive walls and winds through a descending corridor, guiding the gathered procession beneath the palace dome. Scribes carry fresh records behind loyal guards., human men and women of varied ages in plain cream robes and ink-stained belts,

The passage opens into a circular chamber. Empty council seats ring a black stone dais, their ancient sigils awakening as the bronze tablet and recovered records enter.

The Palace Guard Captain

Place guards at every entrance. No crown loyalist, frightened mob, or hidden claimant interrupts the council’s first decree.

Loyal guards take positions beneath each archway, human men and women in dark green tunics beneath brown leather armor, spears lowered but ready. The scribes arrange themselves along the chamber’s rim while dust falls from the palace dome.

These records name the stolen voices and the orders that silenced them. Let the surviving authority restore what the throne erased.

Penelope

The tablet bears my father’s seal. I will place it upon the dais, and let the council’s law speak before any living claimant.

Penelope steps toward the black stone dais with the bronze tablet, while Alexios’s father carries the recovered decrees. Above them, the golden script gathers into a single unfinished sentence.

Alexios’s words strike the chamber like a bell. The bronze tablet flares on the dais, and its golden light binds the proposed decree into the council’s unfinished sentence.

My son, I will accept this burden only beneath the council’s law and the people’s witness. I will rule to restore, not to replace, their authority.

The tablet’s fire surges through Alexios’s wounded shoulder, reopening the cut and darkening his bindings. He remains standing as the ancient seats awaken one by one.

I say I. By the surviving council’s seal, I recognize him as king until Ithaca’s restored assembly confirms the crown.

Penelope

I say I. Let his first decree be the return of every stolen name, every lawful voice, and every right the throne erased.

The scribes, guards, and gathered witnesses answer together, their voices filling the dome with one rising affirmation. Gold script completes the decree, naming Alexios’s father king beneath the council’s authority.

With the decree sealed, Alexios crosses the circular chamber toward Penelope. The council’s golden light softens across the stone, leaving the newly restored authority behind them.

Alexios

Penelope, now that this is all over, I would like to pick up where we left off. How would you like to go to dinner tonight?

Penelope turns from the bronze tablet. Azure and crimson firelight glints across the Twin Flames at her belt, while the gathered scribes quietly make room for the two of them.

Penelope

Penelope

I would like that, Alexios. Let us eat somewhere beyond these walls, where no throne, decree, or witness can interrupt us.

Penelope

Penelope

There is a terrace overlooking the western harbor. We can share spiced river fish, fruit, and a bottle of Ithacan wine, then finally speak of us.

Behind them, Alexios’s father accepts the first petitions beneath the council seal. Penelope offers Alexios one claw, ready to lead him from the chamber toward the harbor terrace.

I would not dare keep the newly crowned king waiting. Five bells, then, at the western harbor terrace.

Penelope watches him go, one claw resting near the Twin Flames at her belt. Around her, scribes continue copying the council’s decree beneath the awakened sigils.

Alexios's father

Alexios's father

Go, my son. The council can survive one meal without its champion, and Ithaca will still be here when you return.

Alexios passes beneath the chamber arch into a quieter corridor. Golden script fades behind him, replaced by evening light spilling through narrow palace windows.

“i say to myself as i leave to get ready "holy sh*t she said yes"”

The Council’s First Decree

Alexios leaves the council chamber beneath the fading gold script, his footsteps echoing through the restored palace corridor as evening light gathers beyond the narrow windows.

Alexios

Alexios

Holy shit, she said yes.

The thought follows him like a spark. His wounded shoulder pulls beneath its bindings, but the pain cannot dim the harbor terrace awaiting him at five bells.

At the restored quarters, attendants have left clean water, fresh bindings, and folded evening clothes beside a bronze basin. No crown finery waits, only practical garments fit for Alexios.

Everburn rests in its stand near the wall, its eternal flames burning low and steady. The Twin Flames remain with Penelope, bright promises at her belt.

Beyond the windows, five bells are being prepared across the western harbor. Palace voices carry through the courtyards, already debating the restored council and its new king.

The evening stretches ahead, open and unfamiliar after tyranny. In the quiet quarters, Alexios has time to wash, bind his shoulder, and prepare to meet Penelope.

Alexios leaves restored quarters behind and arrives at western harbor terrace.

The western harbor terrace opens above darkening water, its white stones warm from the day. Lanterns sway beneath cedar beams while salt wind carries the scent of spiced fish and wine.

Penelope waits beside the low sea wall, azure scales catching the sunset. The Twin Flames rest at her belt, and a blue ribbon is tied around the wine bottle.

Penelope

Penelope

Five bells exactly. I was beginning to wonder whether the new authority of Ithaca had swallowed you whole.

She gestures toward a carved stone table set for two. Beyond it, harbor bells answer one another, and distant ships lift council-colored pennants beneath the evening star.

Penelope

Penelope

I saved the place beside me. Everburn can keep watch from the wall, unless you truly meant to leave tonight to quieter fires.

Alexios

Alexios

Nah, not tonight.

Penelope’s grin brightens as she draws out a chair. On the table lies a folded scrap bearing the restored council seal, addressed to both of them and still warm with fresh magic.

“i sit beside Penelope and say " I know we spent a good few years apart, and i don't expect you to jump right back into this where we left off" but as I speak mid-sentence Penelope pulls me into a deep genuine kiss.”

Before the sentence fully leaves him, Penelope turns and pulls Alexios into a deep, genuine kiss. The harbor bells continue beyond the terrace, softened by the rush of evening wind.

Penelope

Penelope

Good. Because I do not want to pretend those years never happened.

She remains close, one claw resting lightly against his arm. Her expression holds affection, but also the gravity of everything exile and silence placed between them.

Penelope

Penelope

I want to know who you became, Alexios. I want you to know me as I am now, not only as the girl you lost.

The folded council scrap between them pulses with fresh gold magic. Its seal opens by itself, revealing a single line beneath their names: Come to the western ruins before the next moon.

Then tell me about the years I missed. Not the battles or the accusations. Tell me where you slept, what you learned, and who stood beside you.

Alexios

I left Charon in the Sea of Sands.

Alexios’s claw stills above the plate. The harbor music continues below, but the forgotten sea of sands suddenly feels close, vast, and empty.

Penelope leans forward, hope sharpening her expression, but Alexios has no chance to explain where Charon might have crossed the sands. Running footsteps thunder up the terrace stairs.

A young adult man in a dark green guard tunic and brown leather armor rushes into view, breathless, with wind-tossed black hair and a bronze harbor badge at his throat.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

King Alexios, forgive the interruption. A beast of crimson scales is standing at the western gate. The gate guards are afraid to approach.

Penelope rises sharply, one claw settling near the Twin Flames. Below, alarm bells begin to ring along the harbor wall as lanterns swing in the sudden commotion.

Penelope

At once, King Alexios. I will have the western gate opened and guide her safely to your stable.

The harbor guard bows and hurries down the terrace stairs. Below, the alarm bells cease as wardens clear the way through the lantern-lit streets.

At the western gate, Charon lowers her great crimson head as the guards approach. Recognizing the royal escort, she follows them toward the palace without resistance.

Penelope

Penelope

She came looking for you across the sands and sea. I think she remembered exactly where her home was.

The stable doors open beneath the palace, revealing fresh straw, water troughs, and a broad resting space. Charon enters, her heavy steps echoing warmly through the stone.

She lifts her brow crests toward the terrace, then settles beside the stable’s inner rail as the guards withdraw. The harbor’s alarm gives way to relieved murmurs.

Then she crossed the sands and sea for the one person she knew would bring her home.

Charon presses her broad snout against Alexios’s chest, careful around his bindings. Her claws flex once in the straw, and a deep rumble warms the stone stable.

Penelope

Penelope

I remember how you spoke of her, even before we found each other again. You were never merely traveling together.

The harbor guard waits near the open doors, holding a sealed message marked with the western gate’s red wax. Beyond him, another runner, a young adult woman with a slim build, warm brown skin, short curly black hair, and a cream tunic beneath a rust-red sash hurries down the palace steps.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

At once, King Alexios. The wardens found it caught beneath the harness at her shoulder.

The harbor guard unwraps the sealed message and reveals a palm-sized shard of black stone, etched with a faintly glowing council sigil. Sand remains lodged in its grooves.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

Charon guarded it fiercely, but she allowed us to remove it once your name was spoken. No one here could read the mark.

He places the stone carefully into Alexios’s waiting claw. Its cold surface warms at his touch, and a thin golden line traces the outline of a western ruin.

Penelope

Penelope

That is no random fragment. The sigil matches the council seal, but the sand on it came from beyond the western gate.

Charon rumbles behind Alexios and turns her head toward the palace’s western windows. The shard answers with a soft pulse, illuminating a second mark beneath the first.

Penelope

Penelope

Then go swiftly, but return safely. I will keep the wine, the fish, and our place beneath the harbor lanterns.

Alexios mounts Charon, securing the black stone shard in a pouch at his belt. Its hidden mark pulses toward the western windows, answering the distant desert.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

I will open the western gate and send riders to prepare the road. The restored council should know where its seal leads.

Penelope

Penelope

Bring back the truth beneath that mark, Alexios. I will make certain your father hears what Charon carried home.

The western gate opens onto the darkening road. Charon strides into the salt wind with Alexios mounted high, the shard glowing faintly as they leave the palace behind.

“i shake Charon's reigns and turn her east-bound”

SUCCESS (Great Riding, rolled +2)

Alexios shakes Charon’s reins and guides her east. Her powerful hind legs pivot across the salt road, turning away from the western gate and its fading lanterns.

Charon settles into a steady eastern stride, her crimson scales dark beneath the rising stars. The black shard at Alexios’s belt pulses once, then falls quiet.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

East, my king? The western road is where the shard pointed, but I will mark your chosen route for the council.

The harbor guard raises a lantern in acknowledgment, then signals the gate wardens. The eastern road opens between low dunes, leading toward distant watchfires and unfamiliar country.

Penelope

Penelope

Ride where you must, Alexios. I will keep your father informed, and I will be waiting beneath those harbor lanterns when you return.

Behind him, the western gate remains bright with council banners. Ahead, Charon carries Alexios east into the salt wind, while the dark horizon gathers new roads beneath the stars.

“as we leave i raise my hand and ever burn crashes through the window in my quarters and makes it to my hand. i say "ill fix the window when i get back"”

FAILURE (Good Willpower, rolled +0)

As Charon turns east, Alexios raises one claw toward the palace. Everburn answers from his quarters, bursting through the window in a shower of glass and flame.

The spear streaks toward him, but the black shard at his belt pulses sharply. Everburn veers, slamming into the stone gate arch instead of reaching his hand.

Alexios

Alexios

I’ll fix the window when I get back.

Everburn remains wedged high in the arch, its twin heads burning against the stone. The recoil runs through the gate, and the eastern ward seals flare gold.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

My king, the gate wards have caught your spear. I can send men to retrieve it, but they will need your permission to approach the fire.

The black shard grows warm beneath Alexios’s hand, answering Everburn with a faint western glow. Charon continues east only after the wardens secure the reins.

“as we leave i raise my hand and ever burn crashes through the window in my quarters and makes it to my hand. i say "ill fix the window when i get back"”

The eastern ward seals tighten around Everburn’s haft, turning the spear’s flames pale gold. The black shard answers with a colder pulse, binding weapon and gate in opposing magic.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

The ward is not merely holding it, my king. The shard has made the gate recognize Everburn as a key, and the arch will not release either while you carry that mark.

Charon stamps once, restless beneath the salt wind. Around the arch, wardens keep their distance, adult human men and women with lean builds, weathered faces, and dark green tunics beneath brown leather armor as cracks of harmless golden fire crawl across the stone.

The Harbor Guard

The Harbor Guard

We can bring a council scribe and a sealbreaker from the palace. Until then, the eastern road remains open, but your spear is anchoring the gate.
