Wind combs through the rooftop garden of the Tower of New Eden. Below, the city’s overgrown streets shimmer under the endless raincloud, while distant drums begin to pulse from the outer ruins.

Angela Diaboli stands at the balcony edge as her four Apostles gather before her, all grim-faced, all waiting.

Brutus

Brutus

The breach is real. Tell me where to hit, and I’ll break them there.

Azrael

Azrael

My medics are ready, but if they carry plague, I need the word before the gates choke on it.

Peter

Peter

The southern terraces are exposed. If they press in there, they’ll trample half the harvest.

Silas

Silas

Say the sentence, and I will make it final.

Far below, a lookout horn cuts through the drums. The outer ruins are still holding, but only just. A runner in mud-smeared armor reaches the roof access and drops to one knee, breathless.

The Runner

The Runner

My queen, they’ve split into three pushes. One at the west breach, one in the floodwalks, and one climbing for the lower levels. They’re asking for you to answer now.

Reinforce the west breach. Take whoever can hold a line, and hit it now.

Brutus

Brutus

At once.

Brutus snaps straight, already turning toward the stairwell below. The other Apostles shift at once, reading the order as a live command, not a discussion.

The Runner

The Runner

My queen, the west line is buckling. They’re inside the first barricade.

Azrael

Azrael

Then keep the wounded moving away from that side. I will not let a breach become a plague route.

Peter

Peter

If they break into the terraces, I need guards on the beds before the roots get trampled flat.

Silas

Silas

Say who falls first, and I will clear the rest behind him.

Below the balcony, the distant drums sharpen. Brutus is already in motion, and every face waits on the next word from the throne.

I order Peter to guard the terraces

Peter, guard the terraces.

Peter

Peter

At once. The beds come first.

Peter snaps away from the railing and strides toward the garden stair, one hand already waving two sentries after him.

At the terrace edge, the nearest guards answer his motion, peeling off from the line to form a shield around the roots and planters.

Azrael

Azrael

Good. If the breach spills this way, I can keep the injured out of the path of contamination.

Brutus

Brutus

Then I want those terrace guards ready to pivot. If the west line falls, they become the second wall.

Below them, a shout rises from the city side of the tower, sharp enough to cut through the drums. One of the east watch fires flares higher than before, a clear signal answering the movement on the rooftop.

I have the Runner report the east fire

Brutus catches the Runner by the shoulder and yanks them close to the parapet, turning their head toward the east flare. The runner flinches, rain running off their jaw, and points hard at the light instead of speaking.

The Runner

The Runner

That fire is not a warning. It is a marker, they are signaling a push toward the east stairs.

The Runner swallows and adds a second point, lower, toward the tower face. A dark line of movement is visible between the garden walls and the outer climb, men or shapes shifting where the rain breaks on stone.

The Runner

The Runner

And there. They are already on the lower approach.

Brutus’s grip tightens, then eases as the meaning lands. The east fire is not a random alarm, it is a guide, and the breach is trying to split the tower’s defense.

Brutus

Brutus

Then we do not just hold west. We pin east before they climb.

Above the wet stone, the flare keeps burning, bright enough now to throw a red sheen over the runner’s mud and Brutus’s braced arm. The tower has a second front, and the next move is no longer about the gardens.

I send Silas to the lower stairs and i fly to the eastern breach, alone

Silas, take the lower stairs.

I take the east breach alone.

Silas moves at once, already turning from the parapet toward the stair access. Below, boots pound somewhere in the wet dark.

Angela Diaboli launches from the balcony in a hard arc, rain shearing past her as she clears the railing and drops toward the east side of the tower.

Her landing slams the stone and sends a spray of water across the broken approach. The impact costs her a deep jolt through one ankle, but she stays upright.

Ahead, the east breach shows itself at last, a jagged opening where defenders are already falling back under the flare light.

The signal fire below keeps burning, and the first enemy shapes are now plain on the stairs, forcing the next choice into the open.

I drive the first enemies back

Angela meets the first climbers at the broken lip of the east breach and drives into them before they can spread out.

One staggers back down the stairs, then another follows, their formation broken by the impact of her advance.

The pressure at the opening eases as the lead enemy line gives ground, boots skidding on wet stone.

Silas reaches the lower stairs below, cutting off the route behind them while the rain keeps hammering the tower face.

Silas

Silas

The stair is mine. Hold the breach.

For a moment, the east approach belongs to Angela again, but more movement churns in the dark below the flare light.

I order Silas to seal the lower stair

Seal the lower stair. Cut off their retreat.

Silas snaps into motion at once, turning from the landing and driving downward with the force of a man already obeying.

He plants himself on the lower steps, using the narrow run and broken rail as a choke point while rain sheets over his shoulders.

Silas

Silas

It is sealed.

Below him, the dark below the flare light bunches and stalls, its movement forced to break against his held line.

The stairwell is no longer a route, it becomes a trap for anyone still trying to climb.

For a breath, the east breach is hers, and the city below answers with a fresh clang of distant metal and shouting from deeper in the tower.

I order Brutus to reinforce the east stairs

Brutus reaches the landing in a rush of boots and wet armor, already turning before he fully stops. The east stairline below keeps clanging with movement, but now it meets a second body in the choke point.

Brutus

Brutus

I take the line. Move the guards up.

He plants himself beside Silas, shoulder to shoulder in the rain, and the two Apostles lock the stair into a harder wall than one man can hold alone.

Below, the press of enemies falters. The shouting thins, then breaks as the lower steps vanish under their own retreat.

A courier screams up from the dark below that the east push is spent, their climb broken at the threshold.

Silas

Silas

The stair is held, my queen.

For the first time since the flare went up, the east breach stops moving forward. New Eden still rings with alarms, but this line is no longer giving ground.
