Ghost slips through the rusted grate and drops into the asylum’s gut. The tunnel swallows them in wet earth, old brick, and a sour breath of stagnant magic.

The Caretaker
In here, they cannot name you so easily. Keep moving.
Behind them, the grate groans shut. The passage narrows, black water shining in the floor, with roots clawing through the mortar like pale fingers.

Ghost
The tunnel is lower than the corridor.

The Caretaker
Left, then down. There is an old wash room ahead, and a way deeper still.
A faint crackle trembles through the stones from the blocked passage behind them, then weakens. The hunters are farther away now, but not gone.

The Caretaker
Stay close, Ghost. This place remembers every fear it has ever been fed.
“I fly down the corridor, following the caretakers directions”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +0)

Ghost lifts from the floor in a hush of grey smoke, weightless in the low tunnel, and glides after the Caretaker’s pointing hand. The black water below barely stirs.

The Caretaker
Left, Ghost. Then down, keep to the wall.
Ghost obeys, slipping past the slick bricks and the roots that rake the mortar. Their shadow thins in the damp, almost lost in the tunnel’s dark.

Ghost
The passage bends where they said it would.
Ahead, the tunnel opens into a cramped wash room, its doorway bowed inward with age. Beyond it, a colder draft moves, carrying the stink of crumbled wards.

The Caretaker
There. Through that room, if the path is still clear.
Ghost clears the threshold cleanly, drifting into the wash room as the Caretaker’s keys jingle softly behind them. From somewhere back by the grate, a thin metallic scrape answers, too distant to name, but close enough to make the air tighten.
Ghost leaves Cramped wash room behind and arrives at sewers.
“I shift my bidy and snaje diwn a drain to escape into the sewers”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

The drain opens into the sewer like a split seam in the earth, and Ghost spills through it in a ribbon of smoke. Cold runoff hisses below, carrying rust, mold, and old stone.
The Caretaker climbs down after them, key ring clenched tight, coat snagging on iron teeth at the rim. Behind that narrow opening, the tunnel thuds once with a faraway impact.

The Caretaker
Keep low. The sound carries in here.
Ghost flattens into the channel wall and slides along the wet curve of the pipe. The dark water parts around them, and a side alcove yawns ahead, half-collapsed, its bricks glazed with chalk dust from broken wards.

Ghost
The alcove is newer than the surrounding brick.
Ghost threads the narrow gap and comes up inside the alcove, free of the drain and out of the line from the grate. A loose stone shifts under their passing, revealing a sliver of dry floor and a colder draft beyond.

The Caretaker
There. This bend should lose them, if they have not already found the hatch above.
Ghost leaves sewers behind and arrives at the surface.
“I follow the sewer tunnel to the surface so i may escape into the night sky”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

Night air hits Ghost like a cold hand. They rise from a broken storm drain onto wet asphalt, smoke thinning at the edges under a leaning streetlamp. The asylum looms above the trees, black windows watching the road.
The Caretaker follows to the curb, breathing hard, key ring trembling in one fist. Behind them, the drain grates once with a dull metallic shiver from below.

The Caretaker
Go. Keep to the trees, then the fence line. If they listen for us, let them hear me, not you.

Ghost
The road is open. The drain is not.
A pale smear of moonlight slips through torn cloud and catches the Caretaker’s coat, the key ring, and the wet shine of the broken curb. Somewhere under the asphalt, the hunters’ movement answers with a faint scrape.

The Caretaker
If you make it past the fence, do not look back for me unless I call your name.
Ghost is already out of the tunnel and away from the sewer mouth, the night taking them in, while the whisper of pursuit gathers at the grate behind.
Ghost leaves the surface behind and arrives at the moon lit clouds.
“O fly upwards to the sky to hide among the moon lit clouds above”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

Above the roofline, Ghost thins into a rag of smoke and rises into the moonlit cloud cover. The asylum drops away below, its windows smudged into black teeth, while the wind takes their shape and scatters it across the sky.
For one breath, the hunters lose the line. Their scrape and scrape of pursuit stays trapped at ground level, far beneath the moving cloud shadow.

The Caretaker
Go on, then. Take the dark above the trees.
The Caretaker remains at the curb, key ring trembling at their side, but they look up instead of back. The choice lands on their face, quiet and hard.
Then a dull thud rolls up from the drain. The grate shivers once, and the Caretaker’s shoulders lock.

The Caretaker
If they come through here, I cannot keep both paths open.
Ghost hangs in the clouds above, hidden for now. Below, the alliance holds, but only while the Caretaker can choose between waiting and running.
“I fly higher as i wave goodbye to the caretaker”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)

Ghost lifts higher, the smoke of them thinning into the moonlit cloud. Their shape loosens, then gathers again in a slow, deliberate wave above the road.

Ghost
The wind holds.
Below, the Caretaker looks up and answers with a small, shaking lift of their free hand, key ring glinting at their wrist. The drain shudders again, but they do not flinch this time.

The Caretaker
Go on. I will keep this side breathing.
Ghost drifts another body length into the cloud cover, their goodbye still hanging in the air like breath on glass. The asylum roofline sinks farther away, its broken windows swallowing the last of the streetlight.

The Caretaker
If the worst of it comes through the grate, I cut the path and run the other way. That is all I can promise.
For a moment, the night softens around them. The stone slab over the side passage remains below, fixed and dark, while the storm drain vibrates with a dull, patient insistence.
