Adventure of Deangello 1

The adjoining room settles into watchful silence. Marek remains by the wall, Ysra sits near the bed, and Seressa keeps one hand over the iron key beneath her cloak.

A muted bell sounds beneath the inn, exactly once. Dust sifts from the rafters, and the iron key gives a faint answering warmth beneath Seressa’s cloak.

The single bell note dies beneath the inn. Then the floorboards between the two beds buckle upward, releasing a breath of bitter underground cold.

Every lamp in the adjoining room gutters dark. Beneath Seressa’s cloak, the iron key jerks toward the raised boards hard enough to drag her arm forward.

A hairline split opens across the floor, revealing not earth but a depthless black gleam. Something on the other side strikes once, and the bedframe shudders.

The black opening contracts, then pulses wider. From below comes the scrape of many fingernails against stone, followed by a voice that speaks Ysra’s name from beneath the inn.

Tatiana raises the emerald pendant. Green fire spills across the dark room, outlining Deangello, Marek, Ysra, and Seressa in a single protective circle while the black opening claws wider beneath them.

The protection settles over every living body in the room, strengthening around Ysra and sealing itself against the depthless gleam. The unseen strikes below cannot reach through it.

Green radiance steadies above the buckled boards. The voice beneath the inn speaks Ysra’s name again, but the protection receives the summons and turns it harmlessly aside.

Tatiana studies Deangello through the green fire. His breathing remains controlled, his stance is steady, and no weakness troubles him beneath the protective circle.

Tatiana’s perception catches more than his answer: the green protection is intact around Deangello, while the black opening presses against its boundary without finding a weakness.

The black gleam beneath the floor stills against the green protection. The unseen presence withdraws its pressure from Deangello and turns its attention toward Ysra.

The split widens just enough to show a circle of pale stone below, carved with empty seats. A cold voice rises through the boards, carrying no command over Ysra.

The bargain settles into the room, but the green fire changes. A thin dark mark appears across Tatiana’s protective circle, binding her publicly as guarantor of the promise.

The question settles without pressure. Green fire continues to shield the room, while the dark mark across Tatiana’s protection waits like a written consequence.

The black gleam accepts her answer. The pale circle below sharpens into view, and the pressure against Tatiana’s ward withdraws without touching Ysra.

Marek shifts toward the darkened doorway, ready to clear the inn’s passage. Ysra steps nearer the green circle, and the boards stop buckling beneath her deliberate approach.

Tatiana leads the group through the opened floor. Green fire holds the darkness aside as Ysra steps first, Seressa and Marek close behind, with Deangello guarding their rear.

The black gleam becomes a stone stair descending into a circular chamber. Empty seats ring its pale floor, and the threshold waits open at the center without touching Ysra.

Ysra reaches the threshold’s inner ring. The chamber answers with a low resonance, while Tatiana’s green protection settles around her and leaves every path of retreat open.

The pale seats fill with shadowed impressions, but none rises. Tatiana, Deangello, Seressa, and Marek stand within the circle as witnesses while Ysra faces the buried court alone by consent.

Tatiana raises the emerald pendant. Green fire deepens around Ysra and the witnesses, forming an unbroken circle that leaves every path of retreat open.

The shadows in the empty seats incline toward Ysra, but the green ward holds them apart. Its boundary answers every pressure without narrowing her freedom.

Her refusal rings through the pale chamber. The threshold accepts the words, and the empty seats lose their shadows as the black depth folds inward beneath the green fire.

The opening seals into pale stone without a shock or stolen breath. Tatiana’s protective circle remains intact around Ysra and the others, its promise fulfilled as the chamber waits in sudden silence.
