The eastern slope falls silent around the four fallen hunters. Their weapons lie among the brush, while the shepherd’s hollow remains concealed beneath thorn and stone.

Tatiana
We have moments, not safety. Seressa carries the key, Ysra carries the choice, and Vesper will feel the ward’s failure soon.
Seressa reaches for the black iron key but stops before touching it. Beyond the hollow, a faint red pressure crawls over the stones, searching for the living witness.

Seressa
The key opens a way beneath the old track. It will hide us from the ward network, but only if Ysra chooses to turn it.

Ysra
Then show me the key and the ground it opens. I will decide after I understand where it leads.
Marek watches the ridge while Tatiana covers the hollow’s eastern mouth. Seressa lifts the key from the moss, and a narrow seam appears beneath the shepherd’s stones, descending into darkness.
✓ Quest Accepted
Escape the searching ward network
Deangello's turn“Turn into a crow to watch their movement and guide my wife away from them”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Deangello’s shape folds into black feathers and a broad-winged crow rises from the hollow. He circles above the thorn line, watching the red pressure crawl across the stones.
From the air, he sees the searching current divide around the shepherd’s stones, favoring the old track while the eastern ridge remains dark and open.
The crow banks twice toward the western hollow, then drops low over a narrow gap between thorn bushes, marking a route beyond the ward’s searching reach.

Tatiana
I see you. We take the western gap and leave the key-bearer covered.
Tatiana moves where the crow leads, guiding Ysra and Seressa away from the red search while Marek follows close behind. The pressure passes over the empty stones.
Deangello lands on a dead branch ahead, then turns his head toward the safe route. Tatiana reaches the concealed hollow’s far side with the others intact and unseen.
Quest Complete
DeangelloEscape the searching ward network
Deangello leaves western side of the shepherd's hollow behind and arrives at town.
Deangello's turn“Change back and head in town”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +0)

At the town’s western gate, Deangello’s feathers fold into black cloth and flesh. Lanterns burn along the palisade, smelling of pitch, wet earth, and crowded night markets.
A young adult man in a patched guard coat steps from the gatehouse, lean and sharp-faced, with tawny hair, a missing fingertip, and a short spear held across the entrance.

The Gate Watchman
Hold there. The town is closed until the bell stops ringing. It began at the old granary, and no hand is pulling its rope.
Behind him, the town bell tolls once. Its deep note rolls through shuttered streets, followed by a faint answering knock beneath the gatehouse floor.

Tatiana
The sound is below us, not in the tower. Something beneath this town has noticed the key and wants its bearer brought closer.

Ysra
Then I stay with Seressa, and we decide together whether that thing gets what it wants. No one carries me anywhere without asking.
The gate watchman lowers his spear, his weathered brown skin and dark eyes catching the lanternlight beneath the patched ochre coat, as another knock answers from beneath the stones. A thin line of red dust appears across the threshold, pointing inward toward the dark town.
Deangello's turn“We will deal with tomorrow night, right now we need a inn and rest.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Streetwise, rolled -1)

Deangello reads the town’s night traffic and finds the quietest lodging: the Lantern Goose, two streets inside the western gate, with a stable yard and rooms above.

The Gate Watchman
The Lantern Goose will take you. Tell Hessa I sent you, and keep the iron key covered while you pass.
The watchman lifts the bar and opens the gate. The red dust fades beneath the threshold as Deangello leads the group into shuttered streets smelling of rain, straw, and cooking fires.
At the Lantern Goose, an elderly woman with silver-streaked hair, a broad face, and a russet wool dress opens the door. Her sharp eyes assess the armed, weary company without surprise.

Hessa
The watchman’s word buys you rooms. Two chambers, a locked common room, and water for the road. No trouble under my roof.
Hessa leads them upstairs and secures two adjoining rooms. Ysra receives the quieter bedchamber with Seressa nearby, while Tatiana, Marek, and Deangello take the adjoining room to rest until tomorrow night.
Deangello's turn“Marek join the other. My wife and I need some time alone.”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +2)

Deangello
Marek, join Ysra and Seressa. Tatiana and I need some time alone.

Marek
Of course. I will keep watch with them and leave you both undisturbed.
Marek crosses to the other chamber and knocks softly before entering. Ysra makes room, while Seressa remains seated near the wall, the iron key covered beneath her cloak.

Tatiana
Then close the door, husband. Hessa promised privacy, and no one here will disturb us.
Tatiana steps into the adjoining bedchamber and draws the door shut behind her. The inn’s muted sounds fall away, leaving only lamplight, timber, and the quiet space he requested.

Tatiana
We have the room alone. Tell me what you need from this time together.
Deangello's turn“Your love and feeding.”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +0)
Tatiana closes the distance and rests her hands against Deangello’s chest. Lamplight warms the quiet room as she meets his gaze without fear or hesitation.

Tatiana
I am here, husband. Take what I freely give, and let me share the hunger with you.
She draws his head gently toward her neck, giving him time to choose the place and measure. Her pulse beats steadily beneath his mouth.

Tatiana
Only enough to strengthen you. I remain yours by choice, not by command.
Deangello feeds carefully from Tatiana’s living blood. The exchange remains controlled and quiet, warmth passing between them as his restored strength gathers without weakening her.
When he stops, Tatiana keeps her arms around him. Her breathing stays even, and the closeness between them holds more firmly than any spoken vow.

Tatiana
There. You are steadier, and I am still strong. Stay with me a little longer before we return to the others.
Deangello's turn“Make love to my wife and sleep till the next night.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Health, rolled +2)

Tatiana
Stay with me, husband. Let the room remain ours until the night takes us both.
The lamplight burns low. Deangello and Tatiana withdraw into private closeness, and the closed chamber keeps their intimacy beyond sight and sound.
Afterward, Tatiana rests beside him, alive and steady. The inn settles around them, with no alarm from the streets or the adjoining room.

Tatiana
He is safe here for these hours. I will keep watch over the quiet with him.
Sleep takes Deangello beneath the inn’s timber roof. Hours pass without disturbance while Hessa’s household dims, cools, and waits for sunset.
The next night settles over the town. Deangello wakes restored from rest, with Tatiana beside him and the muted inn stirring beyond their door.

Tatiana
Good evening, husband. Ysra, Seressa, and Marek are still safe in the other room. When you are ready, we can rejoin them.
Deangello's turn“Evening, baby. Let's join them”

Deangello
Evening, baby. Let's join them.

Tatiana
Good evening, husband. I am ready.
Tatiana rises beside him and smooths her clothing, her calm presence restored beneath the low lamplight. The adjoining room remains quiet beyond the closed door.
Deangello opens the adjoining door. Marek sits near the wall keeping watch, while Ysra rests upright on the quieter bed and Seressa remains nearby with the iron key hidden beneath her cloak.

Marek
The night passed quietly. Ysra and Seressa are awake, and nothing has disturbed the inn.

Ysra
You both look rested. When you are ready, I want to hear what we do next, and I want my choice kept at the center of it.
Seressa lifts her eyes from beneath the cloak, while Tatiana takes her place beside Deangello. The room gathers around the renewed discussion, its occupants alert and ready to continue.
