The eastern brush parts. A pale, exhausted adult woman staggers into the shepherd’s hollow, her dark hair plastered to her face, one sleeve bloodied, a black iron key clenched in her fist.

Seressa
My name is Seressa. The tower’s sealed basin has begun opening from within, and Vesper’s hunters are already following the pressure it releases.
She raises the iron key toward the ruined tower, then nearly loses her balance. Tatiana’s attention fixes on the blood-dark sleeve while Marek watches the eastern brush.

Seressa
Ysra must return with me before the hidden ward network locates us. The basin will not stay closed, and neither will the path it is opening.
Ysra recoils from Seressa, retreating until her back meets the mossy stones. Her recovered strength holds, but her hands rise defensively between them.

Ysra
No. You hid me beneath that tower and called it preservation. I will not go back because you say the hunters are near.

Tatiana
You arrive bleeding, carrying a key, and demand the witness return to your custody. Explain why the ward network serves your urgency rather than Vesper’s design.

Deangello's turn“Feed from her”
SUCCESS (Legendary Brawling, rolled -3)

Deangello crosses the hollow before Seressa can retreat farther. He catches her bloodied arm and draws her close, the iron key dropping into the moss as she struggles against his hold.

Seressa
Wait. Not like this. I am not your vessel.
Her resistance drives a hard twist through Deangello’s bruised shoulder, sharpening the old injury. He absorbs the strain, pins her without crushing her, and feeds from the offered wound.
Warm blood steadies the hunger behind his eyes. Seressa’s strength ebbs, but he keeps the feeding measured, taking enough to satisfy the edge without letting her collapse.

Tatiana
Enough, Deangello. She is still conscious, but her knees are weakening.
Deangello releases Seressa as the hunger recedes. She sags against the stones, breathing hard, while he remains upright despite the deepened pain in his shoulder.

Ysra
You took her blood, but you left her alive. Do not mistake that for trust.
Deangello's turn“Active my healing to regain health”
SUCCESS (Great Health, rolled +2)
Deangello settles his stance in the hollow and draws Bone-Knit through the bruised shoulder. The damaged muscle tightens beneath his coat as supernatural warmth gathers around the injury.
The ache sharpens once, then recedes. Bruised tissue knits cleanly beneath the skin, restoring strength through his arm without disturbing the steady rhythm of his breath.

Seressa
You heal quickly. That blood was not enough to mend an injury like that.
Seressa remains seated against the mossy stones, pale and breathing hard, but her bloodied sleeve no longer threatens her balance. The iron key lies within reach in the moss.

Tatiana
Your shoulder is mended. Keep your attention on the hollow now. Seressa is weakened, and Ysra still has the right to refuse her.

Ysra
Then let her explain from where she sits. No one takes me back beneath that tower without my consent.
Deangello's turn“I keep Ysra behind me and question Seressa”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled -1)
Deangello steps between Ysra and Seressa, placing his broad frame across the hollow. Ysra remains behind him, while Seressa stays seated against the moss, too weakened to challenge his position.

Deangello
Seressa, explain the basin, the hunters, and why Ysra must return. Speak plainly, and do not ask her to surrender her choice.

Seressa
The basin has begun opening from within because its preserved witness is outside its reach. The ward network is searching for Ysra, not to punish her, but to use her living consent as its key.
Seressa lowers her gaze to the iron key in the moss. Her breathing steadies under Deangello’s scrutiny, and the urgency in her voice gives way to an exhausted admission.

Seressa
I preserved Ysra because the basin needed a witness who could refuse it. I meant to bring her back only to close the opening, but I concealed that choice from her. That was wrong.

Ysra
Then the basin can wait until I understand what closing it will cost me. I will not return beneath the tower blind or bound.

Tatiana
She has answered the essential question. Ysra is the key by consent, not by captivity. The choice remains hers, and Seressa has admitted the concealment.

Deangello's turn“Where is the hunters”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +0)

Deangello
Where are the hunters?
Deangello stills the hollow and searches beyond sight, reading warmth, disturbed brush, and the faint pressure of disciplined movement around the ridge. Four hunters approach from the east, spread across the slope, with two circling south to cut off retreat.

Deangello
Four on the eastern slope. Two are circling south.
The hunters remain beyond the hollow’s stones, roughly a hundred paces away. Their pace is measured rather than hurried, and none has yet seen the group clearly.

Seressa
The eastern slope is the route I feared. The southern pair will reach the old track first.

Tatiana
Then we know their position before they know ours. Ysra stays here, behind Deangello, while we decide how to deny them the hollow.

Ysra
I will stay, but I will not be hidden from the choice. Tell me what they intend when you learn it.
The four hunters continue their careful approach through the eastern brush, unaware that Deangello has found them. The southern pair angles toward the shepherd’s track as the others hold the ridge.
Deangello's turn“Assassinate all the hunters wife my wife.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Stealth, rolled -2)

Deangello slips from the hollow’s shadow and reaches the southern pair before they can cross the shepherd’s track. Two silent strikes end their pursuit, and he is already moving uphill.
The ridge hunters turn at the wrong sound. Deangello crosses the intervening brush with lethal quiet, dropping both before either can loose a warning.
One falling hunter’s blade catches a stone with a sharp ring. The sound carries across the slope, leaving Deangello’s passage exposed even as all four bodies lie still among the brush.

Tatiana
All four are down. The strike revealed you, husband, but it did not reveal this hollow.
Tatiana keeps herself between Ysra and the eastern slope. Seressa watches the motionless hunters from the mossy stones, while Ysra remains behind Deangello, alive and untouched.

Ysra
You killed them before they reached us. I will remember that, but I still choose what happens next.

Tatiana
Then we move before Vesper sends others. Their approach is ended, and Ysra’s choice remains her own.
