The western barrier stands fully open. Maya leads Fin, Robin, and Sara beyond New Hope’s fences, carrying the signed medical release and verified route authorization.
Behind them, the gate guards lower the barrier and return to their posts. The settlement remains inside the fence, while the western road stretches through abandoned fields ahead.

Fin
The papers made it through. Keep them dry and close. We may need to prove that passage was authorized again before sunset.

Robin
I still hate that leaving required more signatures than getting inside. But at least nobody is shouting from the walls.

Sara
Do not relax yet. New Hope is behind us, but the road is exposed, and we have no escort beyond the gate.
Wind moves through the dead grass. Maya’s scraped knee pulls painfully when she walks, but the group remains together, westbound and free to choose what comes next.
“I clean and bind my scraped knee”
SUCCESS (Good Health, rolled +0)

Maya settles beside the western road, opens her medical pack, and cleans the scrape with a clean cloth. Dust and grit lift away as the sting fades.

Maya Gonzales
The scrape is shallow, and the clean cloth is enough.
She binds her knee firmly without cutting off movement, then tests her leg with a careful bend. The dressing holds, and walking is easier.

Fin
That should keep the dirt out. Change it when we stop tonight, and do not let the road rush you.

Sara
We have distance, supplies, and daylight. New Hope is behind us, and no gate decides our next mile.

Robin
Then we keep west until we find somewhere worth stopping. Preferably somewhere without forms, fences, or people shouting orders.
Maya closes the pack and rises with Fin, Robin, and Sara. Together they continue along the open road, leaving the settlement behind and carrying their own choices into the fading afternoon.

The barrier dropped behind them with a heavy clang. Ahead, the western road lay open beneath the pale sky.

Fin
Keep that dressing clean, Maya. You want the road deciding when you stop, not your knee.

Maya Gonzales
It hurts less when I keep moving.

Sara
Then we keep moving.

Robin
Together. That part stays the same.
Maya glanced once at New Hope, its walls already becoming part of the distance, then turned west with the others. The settlement was secure enough to offer shelter, but freedom still carried them onward, bruised, wary, and unbroken. The road belonged to no one, and for now, that was enough.
