Here is your Lantern Market work chit, Artania. The carpenter will meet you by the eastern awning before the morning crowd thickens.

Maelin releases the sealed chit into Artania’s care. Brunna waits beside the guild entrance, while Al moves ahead to the training yard fence and watches the road.

A brief stop before work, lad. Nothing strenuous. I want to see how your healed ankle and hand share a simple load.

In the yard, Brunna lays a narrow line of wooden markers across the packed earth and places a light supply satchel at its beginning. The Lantern Market chit rests safely on a nearby bench.

Walk the markers, carry the satchel, and tell me when your balance changes. Do not hide strain, and do not correct it with force. We learn by communicating.

The ground is quiet, small one. Brunna is listening for your warning, not waiting for you to impress her.

Brunna steps aside, giving Artania room rather than direction. The market assignment waits beyond the gate, while the simple exercise offers the first deliberate measure of their developing partnership.

“I will do what you say Brunna. I complain a little too loudly that she may be overprotective this morning. Is this what it is like to have an older sister?”

I will do what you say, Brunna, but you may be overprotective this morning. Is this what having an older sister is like?

Artania takes the light supply satchel from the bench and settles it over his shoulder. He steps onto the wooden markers, carrying the modest weight across the packed earth.

If I were your older sister, lad, I would be even more overprotective. For now, I am merely making sure you reach the market in one piece.

Artania crosses the markers with steady steps, adjusting his balance when the satchel shifts. His healed ankle holds firm, and his hand grips the strap without pain.

She watches because she values your trail, small one. The satchel is light, but your complaint is carrying much farther.

Well done, lad. Your balance stayed honest, your hand did not strain, and your mouth remained active enough to prove you are fully recovered.

Brunna takes the satchel back and gestures toward the gate. The Lantern Market chit waits on the bench, and the morning assignment is ready.

“Alright, let me get the morning work out of the way, first. Then I will return in the evening for more training in weapons. Master Coppervein, I say cheekily, with a smirk.”

All right, I will finish the morning work first, then return this evening for more weapons training. Master Coppervein, try not to worry.

Artania leaves the guild with the work chit secured and reaches Lantern Market before the crowd thickens. Under the carpenter’s direction, guided by a middle-aged man with a sturdy build, sun-browned skin, a square face, and graying brown hair beneath a worn tan cap, dressed in a russet work vest and dark trousers,, he repairs awnings, braces shutters, and carries the light supplies without straining his healed hand or ankle.

By midday, the market stalls stand secure against the wind. The carpenter signs the completed chit, and the guild clerk, a young adult woman with a slim build, warm brown skin, an oval face, and straight black hair tied at the nape, wearing a blue guild vest over a cream blouse, records Artania’s four silver payment when he returns.

A clean morning’s work, lad. Eat, rest, and return at dusk if you still have energy for weapons.

Artania rests through the afternoon, then returns to the training yard beneath a violet evening sky. Brunna has prepared a sword, shield, and a row of wooden markers.

Tonight we work sword and shield. Footwork first, guarded strikes second, and no chasing speed beyond your control.

Brunna guides Artania through measured steps, shield turns, and controlled strikes. The lesson remains demanding but safe, and he completes the evening training with sound form and strength reserved for tomorrow.
