Adventure of Doku Nohara 1

The palace archivist leads Doku through a newly opened passage beneath the palace grounds. Behind them, the sealed vault and chime gallery fall silent, while Vale, the enrolled family, and the palace herald remain at the refuge.

The passage opens into an abandoned observatory. Dust veils cracked star-maps, and a bronze astrolabe turns above a circular floor, its rings casting slow shadows across the stone.

Doku still wears the silver-thread focus gloves and carries the crystal-mounted Needle-Firing Rapier Staff Parasol. The paired crystals answer the astrolabe with a faint, measured chime.

Layered runes bloom across the floor beneath the astrolabe. Whenever the parasol’s teleportation pattern nears them, the projected symbols shift, rearranging their circles and breaking the apparent anchor.

The archivist stops beside a cracked brass meridian and opens her registry. No ward alarms sound, but the astrolabe accelerates whenever the parasol’s crystals turn toward the room’s darkened northern aperture.

Doku opens the Practical Book of Rune Seals and draws a triune lightning mark through the parasol’s crystal focus, directing its geometry toward the observatory’s bronze astrolabe.

The paired crystals flare. Golden rune-marks leap from the parasol to the astrolabe, the northern aperture, and three points around the circular floor, each becoming a stable teleportation anchor.

Doku releases the pattern. Her body vanishes in a crackle of blue-white thunder and reappears at the northern marker, then flashes across the other marked points in rapid succession.

The cost settles into the spellwork: every anchor burns a black-edged notch into the treated parchment, consuming its prepared surface and leaving it unusable for another rune.

The astrolabe slows, now synchronized with Doku’s lattice. The marked points remain available for teleportation, while the ruined parchment curls into ash beneath the ward-lamps.
