Kaelith whips around at the first crimson crackle, his hand snapping out to catch Harry by the shoulder and drive him toward a narrow alcove in the wall. The blue ward-light is gone, replaced by jagged red veins that crawl over stone like fresh wounds.

The floor softens under their boots, turning slick and hungry. Kaelith braces himself at the alcove mouth, one arm outstretched as the passage behind them slumps into a viscous mire that reaches for their ankles.

A fresh pulse of crimson surges down the walls. Kaelith keeps his weight forward, jaw clenched, clearly trying to buy Harry a heartbeat before the whole passage seals.

The crimson pulse is not a reaction to Kaelith, but a rhythmic, autonomous surge of the crypt itself. The masonry continues to shift regardless of their presence.

Harry opens his bright light and feeds a plain divine purge into it. The crimson pulse catches, stutters, and thins like blood washing from stone.

The hostile runes blanch, their red glow draining back toward the seams. The mire on the floor tightens into wet grit instead of reaching.

Kaelith lifts his shield a fraction, staring as the passage breathes easier. The heartbeat rhythm falters, then breaks.

The blue wards answer under the cleansing, returning in quiet bands along the walls. Their glow replaces the hostile red in measured, steady lines.

For one held breath, the corridor stops trying to swallow them. Kaelith edges forward, watching the floor, while the newly calm passage waits for the next step.
