The receiving chamber is bare except for the stone chair and its unlit circular mark. Mara Vey stands at the threshold; Sister Mentras, Graven, Father Oren Vale, and the ritual-bound skeleton remain behind her in the witness-path.
The door closes without a sound. Pale writing crawls across the floor around the chair, forming a second circle whose lines point inward, toward an absence shaped like a seated person.

The Ritual Survivor
It is not taking my body. It is waiting to learn what remains when my identity is seated there.
The Staff of Dark Rituals darkens above the inscription. Entity Appraisal reveals the mechanism’s cruelty: the chair will copy a recognized identity, then leave the living vessel unable to answer for herself.

Sister Mentras
Master, anchor her name to the basin before the chair receives it. Then the copy may be controlled, or destroyed, without taking Mara from herself.
Behind them, Graven raises his shield as the sealed door gives one slow inward knock. Father Oren recoils, while the ritual-bound skeleton turns its empty skull toward the chair.
The circular mark awakens in a thin violet glow. It offers no command, only a waiting shape for Mara’s identity, and the chamber leaves the next choice before Lushion.
“I anchor Mara’s identity to the basin”
SUCCESS (Legendary Occult Lore, rolled -2)

Lushion plants the Staff of Dark Rituals above the basin and begins the anchoring sequence. His Paranoia keeps drawing his attention toward Mara Vey, Sister Mentras, and the sealed door, forcing repeated checks before each mark is set.
Forbidden Knowledge supplies the rite’s older grammar: the basin must recognize Mara’s living identity without allowing the chair’s copy to become an equal claim. Entity Appraisal confirms which lines belong to protection and which belong to imitation.
Protective Warding closes around the basin as the staff channels a narrow current, enhancing the working while drawing little from his supply. Lushion traces the inner ring, then fixes Mara’s identity to its center.
The basin answers with a steady white glow. A second outline rises beside Mara’s name, but the ward forces it outward, leaving the chair with only a harmless echo and Mara anchored to herself.

Sister Mentras
Her identity is secured, master. The chair can copy an outline, but it cannot take what the basin now holds.
The cost of the close reading is concrete: the final copied outline remains partly unreadable, and Lushion spends precious time verifying it while the door’s knock repeats. Yet the intended protection is complete.
Mara remains herself, the basin holds her living identity, and the chair’s waiting circle falls dark. Behind her, Graven lowers his shield as Father Oren Vale and the ritual-bound skeleton remain safely in the witness-path.

The basin held its light. The violet circle on the chair shuddered, cast a harmless echo into the air, and went dark.

Sister Mentras
Mara remains Mara. The rite has no claim on her.

Graven
Then lower the shield. We have won this room.

Father Oren Vale
The door is silent.
The ritual-bound skeleton turned back toward the witness-path and stood at rest.
Lushion Everstar’s anchoring preserved Mara Vey’s living identity, while the mechanism’s false copy faded without a life to inhabit. The sealed chamber settled into silence, its guardian harmless and its witnesses safe. Beyond the stone, the rite was finished, and Mara remained wholly her own.
