Leo’s small apartment still looks calm, all cramped furniture and old fight posters, but the air changes the moment his drink settles on the table. The earlier promise hangs there again, now with teeth.

Leo lowers his voice and glances toward the window. "I heard the Basement Owner talking about his investments," he says. "Not fighters. Investments. He means people he can turn over later."

Regina King

The envelope, the approvals, the timing, it all fits now.

He taps two fingers against his glass, uneasy. "He was asking who could move you, who could buy you, who would take a cut. That is not how a partner talks."

Leo

Leo

He looks at you like a prize he plans to cash in.

The room goes very still. Even the old posters on the wall seem to stare back, their fighters frozen mid-strike, as the truth of the owner’s calculating approval lands cleanly.

✓ Quest Accepted

Escape being treated as the basement owner’s asset

If thats the case then tomorrow night after im done training with ciach, ill just go to the basement and teach the son of a bitch a lesson

If that is the case, tomorrow night after training, I go to the basement and teach that son of a bitch a lesson.

Leo’s shoulders tighten, then ease as your certainty settles the room. He nods once, slow and grim, like he is marking the threat as real.

Leo

Leo

Good. He needs to hear that somebody saw him clearly.

He reaches for his phone, turns the screen toward you, and a name on the recent calls list flashes past, Basement Owner. The contact is saved.

Regina King

Regina King

He is already on the board.

Leo lowers the phone and glances to the door. His easy hospitality hardens into practical caution.

Leo

Leo

I can get you there clean. No chatter, no detours. If he is counting on you being manageable, that ends tomorrow.

Outside, a car passes under the window and throws a brief stripe of light across the posters. Inside, nothing moves except the faint tremor in Leo’s hand.

Regina finds the heaviest peice of furniture in the room and moves it infront of the door so they know no one will grt in and bother them

SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +2)

Without another word, Regina crosses to the largest heavy table and plants both hands under it.

She heaves. Wood legs scrape hard across the floorboards, dragging the table toward the apartment door.

Leo steps back fast to clear her path, eyes on the doorframe as the table grinds into position.

Regina shoves again, seating the table flat against the door until the handle can barely move.

The room goes still. The barricade holds, and the narrow apartment suddenly feels harder to enter.

Leo

Leo

That is not getting through quietly.

Leo looks from the jammed door back to Regina, then to his phone, waiting for her next call.

"Message him and tell him im coming for him and that im keeping his money"

SUCCESS (Good Intimidation, rolled -1)

Regina King

Tell him I am coming for him. I am keeping his money.

Leo’s thumb flies across the screen. The apartment falls quieter than before, the blocked door and the hard, boxed-in room making every tap sound deliberate.

He hits send, then looks up at Regina with a thin, uneasy breath, as if the message itself has weight.

His phone buzzes back almost at once. The lock screen lights his face, and his jaw tightens.

Leo

Leo

He saw it. No reply, just read.

Leo lowers the phone slowly, and the cash envelope on the table seems to sit heavier in the room, no longer a prize but proof.

From the hall outside, a faint footstep passes and keeps going. Leo glances at the door, then back to Regina, waiting for her next move.

She takes his hand and motions towards the bedroom saying it'll be safer if they stay together tonight

SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled -1)

Regina takes Leo’s hand and gives it a firm tug toward the bedroom. He goes with her at once, letting the phone hang at his side as he follows her lead.

The heavy table stays braced against the door behind them, but the apartment feels less exposed once the bedroom doorway swallows the harsh light from the hall.

Leo

Leo

Yeah. Safer. We stay in one room tonight.

He keeps close as they cross the threshold, then exhales when Regina’s grip steadies him and the tension in his shoulders eases by a fraction.

Leo

Leo

Coach Sun would call this a test too. No promises, just proof.

The cash envelope remains on the table out in the main room, visible through the doorway like a sealed verdict on everything that brought them here.

Leo

Leo

If he keeps seeing you like an asset, then we have to make the next fight loud enough that nobody can pretend otherwise.

Leo looks back to Regina, waiting in the small bedroom with the door half-open behind them, his hand still warm in hers.

She wraps her arms around him and gently lifts him up before lying on the bed with him

SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled +2)

Regina turns the last step into a lift, drawing Leo up against her with easy control. His phone dips lower as he trusts the motion and lets her carry him toward the bed.

She sets him down with care, then lowers herself beside him and guides them both onto the mattress in one smooth, deliberate motion.

Leo

Leo

She makes it look lighter than it is.

The bed creaks once, then settles. Out in the main room, the barricaded door stays shut, but the bedroom feels tucked away from the rest of the apartment.

Leo

Leo

Coach Sun kept saying results, not promises. Tonight feels like the part where we stop talking and start building something they can’t ignore.

Leo turns his head toward Regina, his voice quieter now, less like a warning and more like a question.

Leo

Leo

If you want, I can stay awake and keep watch. If you want quiet, I can do that too.

Ive had plenty of sleepless nights before. One more wont kill me. You rest and ill keep you safe, i promise

Ive had plenty of sleepless nights before. One more wont kill me. You rest, and Ill keep you safe, I promise.

Leo

Leo

Then I trust you with it.

Leo shifts closer, rolling onto his side instead of fighting the exhaustion. His phone rests against the mattress, screen dark now.

Regina stays upright at the edge of the bed, shoulders squared, listening to the apartment breathe around them. The barricade holds in the other room.

Leo

Leo

That thing with the owner, the way he looked at you, like a ledger... I hate it.

Leo

Leo

Coach Sun keeps saying results, not promises. Maybe that is what you give them, results, and then you choose who gets to stand near you.

The mattress sags under one body now instead of two.

Leo

Leo

If you are still awake when I drift off, wake me if you need me. Otherwise... just stay there.

She protectively holds him close as they lay together

SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled -1)

Regina eases down beside Leo and draws him in close, one arm settling over his shoulders like a guard rail. The mattress gives under her weight, but her frame holds steady, making a small shelter in the dark.

Leo

Leo

For a second, it feels like the room has less edge to it.

Leo relaxes into her hold, his breathing evening out against her arm. His phone stays untouched near the pillow, a dead little square of glass.

Leo

Leo

That is better. I can actually breathe like this.

Regina keeps her eyes open, listening. The apartment is quiet except for the soft drag of breathing and the faint complaint of the barricaded door settling in the other room.

Leo

Leo

Coach Sun always talks like that, results, not promises. Maybe he is the first honest person in the room.

Leo gives a tired little laugh, then winces as the bed creaks under the shift. Regina's hold keeps him from rolling away.

Leo

Leo

If you stay like this, I will sleep.

Then sleep, I dont mind

SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +1)

Regina lets her breathing slow to Leo's rhythm and keeps her arm in place, an easy weight across his shoulders. The room stays hushed, the kind of hush that makes every small sound feel chosen.

Leo

Leo

This is the first time all night it feels safe to stop listening.

His eyelids sink shut. The tension in his jaw loosens, and his hand, which had been curled tight near the pillow, finally goes slack.

Regina King

Regina King

The barricade holds. The phone is still dark.

Leo

Leo

You make the room feel smaller in a good way.

Regina stays still, a quiet wall at his back. The compressed mattress gives a faint sigh under them, then settles.

Leo

Leo

If Coach Sun wants results, then tomorrow he gets results. Tonight, I just want this.

Leo drifts fully under, his breathing even now. Regina keeps watch, calm and unhurried, while the bedroom holds steady around them.

Eventually, she falls asleep aswell

SUCCESS (Superb Health, rolled +0)

Sleep finally takes Regina in pieces, first her shoulders, then her jaw, then the hard line of her hands. Her breathing evens out against Leo's steady rhythm.

The mattress stays compressed beneath them, but her body stops fighting it. The room feels smaller still, held together by darkness and the barricaded door beyond.

Regina King

Regina King

The phone stays dark.

Leo

Leo

Yeah. Rest. I’ve got it.

Leo does not move much, only enough to keep the blanket tucked around her side. His voice is low, careful not to pull her back awake.

Regina settles deeper, her watchful tension gone at last. In the dim bedroom, the silence turns from vigil to shelter.

Regina and Leo sleep until morning

The Predator's Investment

Morning comes in a pale strip under the curtain. Regina and Leo wake slow, tangled in the same blanket, the apartment still barred and quiet.

Leo

Leo

You slept. Good. The door never moved.

He rubs one eye, then glances toward the dark phone on the pillow, staying close without crowding her space.

I think having you with me made the night easier

Regina King

Regina King

Having you with me made the night easier.

Leo

Leo

Leo’s mouth lifts in a tired, real smile. “Good. You made it easier too.”

The room stays quiet around them, the barricade holding, daylight laying a pale strip across the bed as the tension finally eases into something steady.

Regina stands and stretches before getting ready for the day and heading to the coach's gym

SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +1)
