The motel room is small and clean, with a narrow bed, a wall-mounted television, and a bathroom fan that rattles when switched on. The brass key turns stiffly in the lock.

The room is number twelve. Checkout is at eleven, and the deposit comes back when I inspect it. If anything does not work, tell me tonight.

Sheila remains in the doorway rather than entering. Her eyes move over the borrowed clothes, the work boots, and the cash receipt in Adam’s hand, measuring whether the arrangement feels ordinary.

The diner is east, past the gas station. Keep the receipt. I wrote the deposit amount on it so there is no confusion in the morning.

Sheila places the receipt beneath the room key on the chipped dresser, then steps back into the corridor. Highway noise seeps through the window, steady and distant.

You look like you had a long day. Lock the door behind me, and do not leave the key in the room if you go for food.

Sheila waits until Adam has the key before walking toward the office. The room, the receipt, and twenty dollars now represent his first temporary foothold in Las Vegas.

“Concerning the quest "Identify the source of the Annex Disturbance", was that not the reporter that Adam and Deputy Brooks found that was the source of the disturbance? Can the quest be considered completed?”

YES (VeryLikely, rolled 20)

The answer settles the unfinished question without changing the motel room. The disturbance at the Annex was caused by the crouching woman, the reporter Adam and Deputy the deputy found beneath the wreckage.

Her trespass, the fresh tracks, and her presence inside the collapsed site now align as one confirmed event rather than separate possibilities. The search identified its source.

Adam

The disturbance source has been identified. That quest is complete.

The conclusion does not erase the monitored alarm line, the concealed case, or the larger danger surrounding the Annex. It establishes only who entered and disturbed the site.

The crouching woman remains a separate problem in the record: a reporter who trespassed while investigating the collapse, not an unknown intruder still waiting to be found.

Outside, traffic continues beyond the motel window. The completed finding joins the other settled facts of the escape, while Adam’s temporary room remains quiet for the night.

Director's note

OK, lets make absolutely certain about how much money Adam has now. He got the 45 from before then pay from the warehouse job. The job didn't state an amount as I remember, double check that and make sure how much Adam has is true.

“Adam locks the door behind him as he leaves to get the soup and sandwich deal at the diner as the lady had recommended.”

SUCCESS (Good Agility, rolled +0)

A Temporary Foothold

Adam takes the brass Motel Key from the dresser and checks the receipt before leaving. The forty-five dollars from Feed & Hardware and the seventy-five-dollar warehouse payment made one hundred twenty; after the room and deposit, twenty remains.

He steps into the corridor, pulls the door shut, and turns the Motel Key in the stiff lock. The bolt seats cleanly, securing room twelve and preserving the refundable deposit arrangement.

Adam pockets the key and receipt, then walks east beneath the motel sign. The evening air carries highway dust, gasoline, and the warmer scent of food from beyond the gas station.

Twenty dollars remains for food and breakfast.

He follows the sidewalk past the gas station and reaches the twenty-four-hour diner without incident. Its bright windows and steady interior noise make the entrance easy to identify.

Adam opens the diner door and steps inside, keeping the twenty dollars separate in his pocket. He has arrived with the motel secured, the key retained, and enough money for the recommended soup and sandwich deal.
