Commander Serah Vale

Andras and Kesh bring the restrained dark elf across Commander Serah Vale’s snow-dusted military camp. Kesh keeps her wrist secured, while her masked face reveals nothing.

At the command shelter, Commander Serah Vale waits over a map table, iron-gray braid tight beneath her red cloak. Guards close the canvas flap behind them.

Commander Serah Vale

Commander Serah Vale

Set her before me. I want the truth about the false order, the altered seal, and every hand behind Brackenford’s missing grain.

Then give us routes, marks, and titles. You tried to burn the evidence, but you failed to burn yourself.

Before Vale can press further, a sentry’s signal sounds twice outside, then stops. The commander’s gaze shifts to the shelter entrance, her hand settling near her sword.

Commander Serah Vale

Commander Serah Vale

No one enters or leaves until I know whether that signal concerns her, or whether her capture was meant to draw our attention elsewhere.

The signal sounds again, three clipped notes from beyond the shelter. Snow scatters beneath hurried boots, and the guards tighten their circle around the dark elf.

A young adult woman sentry pushes through the canvas flap, compact beneath a blue-gray cloak, her dark braid iced at the shoulder and one cheek marked with fresh soot.

The Sentry

The Sentry

Commander, the eastern storehouse is burning. Two riders breached the camp perimeter and are fleeing toward the old shrine.

Commander Serah Vale

Commander Serah Vale

How many guards saw them? And why was the alarm delayed?

The Sentry

The Sentry

The watch captain is down, alive but stunned. The riders carried red shields, and one dropped this when the fire took hold.

She places a black-crescent token on Vale’s map table. The dark elf’s masked head turns toward it, while Kesh’s grip tightens around her wrist.

The Dark Elf

They came for the prisoner, not the stores. If they reach the shrine, every road east will close before dawn.

“"Commander. let me and Kesh go after them" *You say. leaving the elf in their custody as you run out to find a horse. pulling Kesh up with you you see the two riders. both in the same dark leather the elf wore riding away.*”

Andras leaves the dark elf in the guards’ custody and rushes through the canvas flap. Commander Vale gives one sharp nod as Kesh follows.

Commander Serah Vale

Commander Serah Vale

Go. I will secure the prisoner and the camp. Bring me one of those riders alive if you can.

At the picket line, Andras finds a saddled horse, swings up, and pulls Kesh behind him. Hooves strike frozen ground as they race toward the eastern road.

Kesh

Kesh

There! They are taking the old shrine path. Same dark leather as the elf, and one carries the black-crescent mark.

Two riders cut across the snow ahead, cloaked in dark leather matching the captured elf’s armor. Their horses descend toward the ruined shrine, scattering frost beneath pounding hooves.

Kesh

Kesh

They know the roads better than we do. Keep them in sight, Andras. If they reach the shrine, the trail divides.

Andras grips the moon pendant as the horse races beneath the shrine’s broken arch. Pale lunar radiance gathers around his hand, cold and soundless against the snow.

The moon bolt streaks past the fleeing riders and strikes the shrine’s weathered eastern wall. Ancient stone cracks, then collapses across the path in a thunderous white cloud.

Kesh

Kesh

Well placed. They are boxed between the fallen wall and the old altar.

The riders wrench their horses around, but broken masonry seals the direct route. One mount rears; its rider drops the reins and reaches for a blade.

The Black-Crescent Rider

The Black-Crescent Rider

Moon-cursed interference! Dismount and face us, or your companion pays for this obstruction.

Kesh swings down behind the fallen stone, keeping the golden sword ready between himself and the trapped riders. He plants his feet, leaving the horses room to settle.

Kesh

Threats will not make us careless. Andras, we have them contained, and no one needs to die here.

The two riders draw their blades. One is a human man with long black hair beneath a black hood; the other is a lean black dragonborn, both marked by crescent emblems on their chests.

Andras

Andras

Looks like we’re going to have to fight, Kesh.

Andras dismounts beside Kesh and draws his own blade, placing himself between the trapped riders and the open snow beyond the fallen masonry.

Kesh

Kesh

Then we fight together. Keep the dragonborn from the horses, and I will contain the swordsman.

The human rider lunges over the broken stones. Andras catches the first stroke on his blade, but the impact tears his healing forearm open beneath its linen binding.

The Black-Crescent Rider

The Black-Crescent Rider

Two oath-bearers against us? The crescent will remember your faces.

Kesh advances as the black dragonborn drops from the saddle, golden sword raised between them. Snow churns beneath four sets of feet, and the fight begins.

Andras

Andras

Last chance to back away before I send your soul to the moon mistress.

Andras readies the moonlit blade against the human rider, its pale edge bright beneath the ruined shrine. The threat hangs over the snow, but the rider does not retreat.

The Black-Crescent Rider

The Black-Crescent Rider

Bold words from a wounded guardian. I have seen moonlight bless executioners as readily as protectors.

The human rider surges forward instead of yielding. Andras turns the stroke aside, but the rider’s counter knocks his blade wide and drives him back against fallen stone.

The Black-Crescent Rider

The Black-Crescent Rider

You want mercy? Then stop trying to frighten me and look at what your companion is facing.

The rider’s feint exposes the black dragonborn beyond him. Kesh is pressed toward the old altar, yet the golden sword has forced his opponent away from the horses and the shrine path.

Kesh

Kesh

Andras, the horses are clear. We can withdraw with them, or separate these two before either blade finds flesh.

Then let the moon judge which of us deserved to live.

The rider remains upright by sheer will, blood darkening his coat as he hacks at Andras’s shoulder. Andras turns the blow aside, but the fight stays brutally close.

Kesh

Kesh

Andras, keep him away from the horses! The dragonborn is pressing hard, and neither of them is yielding.

Across the ruined shrine, the black dragonborn drives Kesh around the altar with sweeping cuts. Kesh answers each stroke, golden steel flashing between their bodies.

The ruined altar and drifting snow swallow every sign of the other duel. Andras faces only the black-crescent rider, who staggers against the fallen masonry with his blade still raised.

The black-crescent rider’s wounded stance falters, but his eyes remain fixed and defiant. Andras watches his guard, waiting through the feints for the opening beneath his sword arm.

The human attacks desperately. Andras turns the stroke aside, steps inside the exposed guard, and brings the moonlit blade around in one decisive swing.

The blade strikes true. The black-crescent rider’s weapon falls into the snow, and he collapses beside the broken stones, the last resistance leaving his body.

The Black-Crescent Rider

His voice fades beneath the winter wind. The black-crescent rider dies in the snow, while the moonlit blade lowers and pale light returns to the silent shrine.

A sharp yelp cuts through the wind behind the ruined altar. Andras turns from the fallen rider and runs over the broken stones toward Kesh.

Beyond the collapsed wall, Kesh is on one knee beside the old altar, the golden sword braced across his body. The black dragonborn stands over him, clutching a wounded shoulder.

Kesh

Kesh

Andras! I am here. Do not let him reach the horses.

The black dragonborn pivots toward Andras, then checks the open path behind him. Kesh’s guard has kept the horses clear, but his bruised arm hangs stiffly.

Kesh rises with effort and sets his feet beside the altar. The oath-blade’s gold light strengthens as Andras reaches him, joining their shadows across the snow.

His arm is badly hurt, but I cannot tell whether the damage reaches the bone.

Kesh shifts his weight beside the altar. The movement nearly buckles his knee, and the golden sword dips before he forces it level again.

Kesh

The black dragonborn sees Andras’s attention turn and lunges, driving a hard cut toward the gap between the oath-bearers.

The Black Dragonborn Rider

The Black Dragonborn Rider

There is your answer, moon-bearer. Hurt enough to fall, and proud enough to hide it.

Kesh catches the blow beside Andras, but the impact sends him stumbling against the altar. His injury is now clear enough to demand immediate protection, though its full severity remains hidden.

“*you try and drive the dragonborn away from Kesh*”

SUCCESS (Great Melee Combat, rolled +1)

The Signal Outside

Andras steps between Kesh and the black dragonborn, moonlit blade rising to intercept the next cut. He turns the strike aside and drives forward with measured strength.

The black dragonborn yields ground beneath the pressure, boots scraping across frozen snow. Andras keeps his blade between the attacker and Kesh, forcing him beyond the altar’s reach.

The Black Dragonborn Rider

You would spend your opening protecting a wounded ally? Then I will break you first.

The dragonborn lashes out again, but Andras catches the blow and twists his wrist aside. A firm shoulder check sends the attacker stumbling toward the ruined wall.

Kesh

Kesh

Good. Keep him there, Andras. I can breathe now, and the horses remain clear.

The black dragonborn regains his footing several strides from Kesh, separated by the broken altar and Andras’s ready blade. Snow drifts through the space between them.

The Black Dragonborn Rider

The Black Dragonborn Rider

You have bought him distance, moon-bearer. Do not mistake distance for victory.

“"I won't" *you say choosing between Kesh and Capturing the dragonborn. taking him in could doom Kesh. He can't escape and you can't capture him. Kesh needs help. So you take the opening. with a quick slash you open the dragonborns throat.*”

Andras takes the opening instead of leaving Kesh exposed. His moonlit blade flashes once across the the black dragonborn rider’s throat, and the attacker collapses soundlessly into the snow.

The fallen dragonborn’s clenched hand releases a black-crescent token and a narrow strip of parchment. Inked lines reveal a concealed route from the shrine to an eastern border fort.

Kesh

Kesh

You chose me. I am alive because you did.

Kesh lowers the golden sword and leans against the altar, his injured arm trembling. The horses remain calm beyond the broken wall, and no other enemy answers the silence.

Kesh

Kesh

Take the route. Then help me bind this arm before I become another burden you must carry.

The moonlit blade dims as Andras stands over the fallen foe. The parchment’s route offers a direct lead toward the conspiracy, while Kesh’s shallow breathing makes his need immediate.

You make that sound like a confession, Andras. I would rather hear it as a promise to keep choosing wisely.

Kesh flexes his fingers, then lifts his eyes to the parchment. The route runs from the shrine toward an eastern border fort, marked with two concealed waypoints.

Commander Vale’s camp lies beneath a slate sky, its canvas shelters snapping above churned snow. Commander Serah Vale steps from the shelter as the armored soldier takes the reins. Her eyes move from Kesh’s restored arm to Andras’s bloodied bandage, then to the black-crescent token.
