Moonlight lies thin over Luna's tower, silvering the grass and the black stone path.
Three travelers are sprawled at the gate, half-buried in dew, each wrapped in cold iron chains that drink at them like frost.
Luna draws near, and the shadows at the tower's base stretch wrong, pooling together as if something beneath them is waking.

Edrin
Do not... come closer. It watches from the trees.

The Second Traveler
The iron... it will not... let us go.

Sella
Hunter... already here... bait for the tower.
A shape in the treeline shifts, tall and patient, then stills again as if waiting for Luna to choose the wrong mercy.

The Hooded Hunter
Step out, dragon-goddess, or let them fade where they lie.

“I snap my fingers and the chains snap, freeing the travellers and teleporting them behind me for protection”
SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +0)

Luna snaps her fingers. Cold iron cracks like glass, and the chains fall apart in black pieces at the travelers’ feet.
In the same breath, she blinks them behind her. They reappear in a tight cluster at her back, out of the grass and out of reach.

Edrin
Safe... for a heartbeat.

The Second Traveler
What kind of power does that?

Sella
It noticed. The hunter noticed.
The moonlight flickers across the gate stones, and a fine crack of blue-white heat runs through Luna’s fingertips before it fades.

The Hooded Hunter
There you are. Show me the shape beneath the disguise, if you mean to keep them breathing.
“In the blink of an eye i teleport to the hunter and grab him by the throat, lifting him off the ground”
SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +0)

Luna vanishes from the gate path and reappears at the treeline in a crack of blue-white heat.
Her hand clamps the hunter’s throat before the bow can swing aside, and their feet leave the ground at once.

The Hooded Hunter
So. The disguise is standing closer than I hoped.
The hunter’s hood tips back as Luna lifts them, dark sleeves twisting against her wrist.

Edrin
Luna, behind you, the gate, please, just keep them away from us!

Sella
If she holds him there, maybe the night ends here.
Cold air shivers through the grass. The hunter goes still in Luna’s grip, then smiles through the strain.

The Hooded Hunter
Good. Now everyone can see what she is.
“I exhale a feirce cone of divine dragons breath and incinerate the hunter to ash”
SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +3)

Luna’s breath unfurls in a white-gold torrent. The hunter’s hood flashes, then empties into a burst of ash that the wind snatches apart.
The bow drops untouched into the grass. Around it, the treeline’s blue-white flicker gutters and fades, as if the spell feeding it has been cut.
Behind Luna, the travelers go silent. Their bindings are gone, their danger is gone, and the night suddenly feels much larger.

Edrin
By the saints... it is over.
A glint remains where the hunter stood, a blackened coin half-buried in the ash, warm and faintly marked with a warding sigil.

Sella
Take that thing, Luna. Please. Before anything else comes sniffing for it.

“I take the blackened ward-coin and crush it into dust in my grip before commanding the travelers to enter my tower.”
SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +0)

Luna closes her hand around the ward-coin. Black residue flakes away between her fingers, then the sigil crumbles into dead dust that the wind cannot lift.
The First Traveler straightens, eyes fixed on Luna, while the Third Traveler backs toward the dark arch of her tower as if afraid to believe it is still there.

Luna the Dragon Goddess
Go into the tower. Both of you.

Edrin
Yes. Thank you, Luna.

Sella
We are moving. Just... keep that ground behind us quiet.
They start for the gate, cautious but no longer trapped, while the treeline stays still and unanswering.

“Where is the second traveler? I only count the first and third.”
FAILURE (Good Reasoning, rolled -3)

The travelers reach the archway, but the count stays wrong. One footstep, then two, then a gap where a third should be.

Luna the Dragon Goddess
Where is the second traveler?
The First Traveler stops short at the threshold, turning back with a startled look that searches the dark behind Luna.

Edrin
Second? We only had the two of us by the time the chains fell.

Sella
No. There were three in the clearing before the hunter spoke.
The words hang between them. The tower door remains open, the treeline stays mute, and the missing traveler is nowhere in sight.
“I shake the thought out of my head, silently declaring two of them is easier to handle than three and i lead them inside as i ask their names.”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled -1)

Luna lets the thought go and motions the two travelers through the open gate, her steps calm and careful. The empty space where the third should be stays like a wound in the count, but the tower welcomes the pair inside.

Luna the Dragon Goddess
Two are easier to guide than three.

Edrin
I am Edrin.

Sella
And I am Sella. If there were three of us, then where did the other one go?
Their voices soften as they cross the threshold. Inside the gate, they draw close to one another, no longer split by the clearing.

Edrin
We were taking the road to the west shrine. When the chains came, I remember the cold. After that, only fragments.

Sella
I remember a third lantern. I remember someone walking between us, then the hunter, then nothing. I do not know if I am wrong, or if something stole the memory with the missing one.
They look to Luna now, waiting for an answer the treeline does not offer.
“I guide them to a hall of living quarters and tell them each to pick a room and get settled in”
SUCCESS (Good Diplomacy, rolled +1)

Luna leads them deeper inside, away from the threshold and into a narrow hall of sleeping rooms. The tower hushes around their footsteps, and the empty place in their company follows like a shadow.

Edrin
Rooms are enough. Give us a door and a lock, and we will stay put.

Sella
Show us where to leave our things, if you mean to keep us safe.
Luna points them to two small chambers side by side. Edrin chooses one at once, while Sella pauses only long enough to claim the other.

Edrin
If Luna says this place is safe, I will trust the walls more than the road.
The travelers slip into the rooms and begin settling in, hands easing from their tension as the doors take them in.

Sella
We are inside now. If the missing one comes back, we will hear them from here.
For the first time since the trap sprang, the tower holds them as occupants instead of prey. Then a faint scrape answers from farther down the hall, as if something else in the tower has noticed their arrival.
