Catastrophe vs Chu

Catastrophe reaches the elevated rail interchange, dragging the tightened chain until the corroded links finally tear free from the gate hardware. Her stiff shoulder aches, and her scraped shin burns as she climbs.

Below the tracks, a crowded platform churns beneath fluorescent lights. Trains grind overhead, their steel thunder sealing civilians between the stairwells and the obvious blast radius.

Chu emerges onto the opposite stairwell, rain-darkened street clothes clinging to her small frame. She spots Catastrophe above the platform and immediately raises both fists.

The crowd compresses toward the center of the platform as another train roars overhead. Chu advances along the opposite walkway, refusing to let the stairwell become Catastrophe’s path into the city.

Signal lights flicker through the station haze. Chu stands between Catastrophe and the nearest exit, while the trapped commuters watch the distance between them collapse.

Catastrophe thrusts her good hand toward Chu and unleashes a concussive blast. The shockwave tears across the walkway, hurling Chu backward toward the far stairwell while commuters scatter in panic.

Chu crashes through a station advertisement and lands hard beside the opposite stairwell, well clear of Catastrophe's route. The blast also ruptures a fluorescent fixture overhead, showering sparks across the platform.

The commuters surge away from the damaged fixture, abandoning the center of the platform. Train thunder rolls overhead as smoke and electrical crackle briefly veil the walkway.

Catastrophe's fingers spasm from the barely controlled discharge, and a sharp burn marks her palm. Her hand remains functional, but the blast leaves it trembling at her side.

Chu rolls onto one knee amid broken glass, shaken and separated from the central walkway. The nearest exit now lies open beyond Catastrophe, with no body blocking her advance.

Catastrophe sprints through the nearest station exit, boots hammering the stairs as commuters scatter from her path. Her scraped shin burns under each stride, but she never slows.

She bursts through the doors into the rain-dark street, leaving fluorescent glare and train thunder behind. The exit stands open, and the city spreads ahead beneath traffic lights and wet pavement.

Chu reaches the top of the stairwell as Catastrophe clears the sidewalk, one hand braced against the railing. She sees the distance opening and launches after her into the rain.

Behind them, commuters spill from the station exit in a frightened stream, while the damaged platform flashes through the doors. No one blocks Catastrophe's escape route now.

Catastrophe crosses the next intersection before the signal changes, vanishing into the city's rain and traffic. Chu remains behind at the curb, forced to follow on foot.
