Catastrophe vs Chu

The power plant shudders around Catastrophe, alarms wailing through ruptured pipes and failing machinery. Planted explosives blink beneath the control platforms as steam clouds the air.

Across the turbine hall, Chu, a small, slim young Asian woman in battered street clothes, stands between Catastrophe and the nearest escape route. Red circles mark her alert face.

Workers crouch behind overturned equipment while emergency lights pulse red. Catastrophe's paused destruction has left the plant balanced on seconds, not safety.

A ruptured coolant line bursts louder than the alarms. The nearest catwalk buckles, cutting off one group of workers as sparks scatter across the trembling floor.

Chu raises her fists and holds her ground, eyes fixed on Catastrophe. Behind her, the marked escape route remains open, but the collapsing plant steadily narrows it.

Below, Catastrophe reaches the concrete floor. Bundled cables crowd the low passage, and hot pipes thrum beside a service junction marked with faded warning paint.

The impact has aggravated her shoulder, leaving the arm stiff and painful. Above, Chu’s muffled pounding follows her into the dark as the plant continues to buck.

Catastrophe follows the service passage beneath humming pipes, one hand braced against the wall as the floor slopes toward a grated stairwell.

At the bottom, she finds a steel personnel door beneath a green EXIT sign. Its crash bar is chained, but the corroded lock yields under her strength.

The door bursts open into the power plant’s fenced substation yard. Rainy night air washes over her as transformers buzz beyond the concrete service road.

A klaxon erupts from the door frame, broadcasting her escape through the plant. The sound rolls back through the passage toward Chu and the trapped machinery.

Catastrophe steps fully outside, free of the building. The broken crash bar hangs from one hinge, and her injured shoulder throbs sharply from forcing the exit.

Behind her, red emergency lights strobe through the open doorway. Ahead, the service road runs between chain-link fences toward the dark city streets.
