Dotonbori blazes around them, neon fishing in the wet pavement as Kantorou and Akira leave the noise behind and reach his quiet home. The city still hums outside, but the stairwell and front door swallow it into a damp, narrow hush.
Kantorou gets inside with his side still throbbing under the bandages. Akira comes in close behind, eyes sharp, already checking the room as if she expects trouble to leak through the walls.

Akira
You should sit before you drop. I can open the receipt, if you want.
The apartment is modest, tight, and lived in. A low table, a ceiling fan, a faint smell of detergent and old smoke. On the table waits the oil-stained receipt Toda gave them, creased and important.

Kantorou Mashashiba
The receipt has fresh oil on it.
Akira lays the paper flat under the lamp, careful with her bandaging hands. The yellow light catches the stain and the printed numbers, while the rest of the room seems to hold its breath.

Akira
This is the first clean lead we have. Cargo yard, east district... unless someone wanted us to see exactly that.
“*a man in a dark blue gi, and red hair comes in* *it's Akuma*”
FAILURE (Good Perception, rolled -2)

A knock lands hard on the apartment door, then another, measured and confident. The lamp trembles on the low table.
Kantorou shifts his weight toward the sound, keeping one hand near his side. Akira looks up from the receipt, already wary.

Akira
Nobody from the building knocks like that.
The handle turns once. The door opens a narrow slice, and a man in a dark blue gi stands there with red hair tied in a topknot, one eye catching the lamplight.

Akuma
Kantorou Mashashiba. I was told the trail would lead here.
Akira rises halfway, blocking the table without meaning to. The receipt lies exposed between them, its oily stain bright under the lamp.

Akuma
Move carefully. I am here for the duffel bag, and I would rather not waste time.
“*a man in a dark blue gi, and red hair comes in* *it's Akuma*”
SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled -1)
Akuma eases the door wider and steps in, rainlight sliding over the blue folds of his gi. He does not rush, but the apartment seems to shrink around him anyway.
Kantorou studies him in silence, taking in the red topknot, the hard set of his shoulders, the calm way he scans the room.

Akira
You are really just walking in here?

Akuma
I said I would not waste time. The duffel bag was stolen from me, and the trail points where this lead points.
He glances once toward the receipt on the table, then back to Kantorou. The hallway behind him stays open, wet, and bright.

Akuma
If you are holding the next answer, speak now. If not, I will keep looking.
undefined / undefined

The rainlight catches on the table, and the oil-stained receipt lies there like a flare. Then the hallway answers with a hard click, and a second shadow cuts across the doorway behind Akuma.

Akira
Wait. There is someone else outside.
Akuma turns his head a fraction, not surprised enough to flinch. One hand slides into the fold of his gi, and when it comes back out, he is holding a small metal latchkey with a paper tag tied to it, the kind used for storage lockers or cargo cages.

Akuma
The bag was not taken from me alone. Someone wants me led to it, and they are already here.

Kantorou Mashashiba
A key like that would fit a yard locker.
From the hall, a low male voice barks for the apartment door to be left open. Akuma angles his body half toward the sound, half toward Kantorou, making the room feel suddenly too small to hold all three sides of the problem.
“*suddenly the other, "Real" Akuma walks i, he has red hair*”
FAILURE (Good Perception, rolled -3)

Akuma stills at the threshold, key glittering by his hip, while the hall shadow inches closer but does not enter. The room holds its breath with the rain.

Kantorou Mashashiba
Red hair. No, that is not the one in front of me.
Kantorou shifts his eyes, not his stance, trying to pin the doorway and the hall at once. The trick almost works, then the angle breaks on the open door and the rain glare.

Akuma
You see it too. One of us is the bait.

Akira
Kantorou, the receipt, look at the receipt, not him.
Akira jerks the paper tight against her chest, but the motion flashes the oil stain toward the hallway for just an instant.

Akuma
Too late. He knows where to look now.
“*suddenly the other, "Real" Akuma walks i, he has red hair*”
SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled +0)
A second Akuma steps through the rainlit doorway, red hair wet at the ends, his gi dark from the storm. The room suddenly has two versions of the same threat.

Kantorou Mashashiba
The newcomer matches the hair. The one inside is the wrong one.
Kantorou shifts one step, angling his body so both men stay in view. The newcomer stops short when he sees the table, the receipt, and his own shadowed double.

Akuma
So that is how they split me up. Fine. Which one of you took my bag?

Akira
Kantorou, that one. The real one. Look at his face, not the key.
The inner Akuma tightens his grip on the key, but his eyes flick to the new arrival, and the resemblance breaks like a cheap mirror.
Rain hisses through the open door. Both men wait for Kantorou's next move, and the hallway shadow lingers just beyond the frame.
