The golden vial remains beside Taydo’s staff at the basin. The Child and the Dryad of Eld follow him along the newborn stream as it winds beyond the silver water.
Clear water threads through ash and blackened roots, waking tiny green shoots in its passage. Fern tips uncurl, and pale mushrooms rise where the current touches the soil.
The Child
It remembers where the forest lived. Look, Taydo. Even the smallest roots are drinking.
The stream leaves the basin’s moonlit grove and crosses a slope of charcoal and gray dust. Behind them, the reopened spring continues singing beneath the Dryad’s watch.
The Dryad of Eld
The water carries renewal, but not far enough. Ahead, the wound has found a harder heart.
The stream reaches a broad burn scar where recovery falters. Beneath the soot, something large interrupts the water’s course, its outline hidden by blackened roots and cracked earth.
The Child
Something is still sleeping under there.
