The earth groans with a sound like snapping timber. Taydo scrambles through the narrow, suffocating throat of the tunnel as the chamber collapses behind him.
He breaks through the surface, stumbling into the dim, tangled lattice of the Great Oak roots. Above, the world is tilted and wrong.
The Child
The sky is bleeding black, Taydo. It is falling inward.
Taydo
The ground is not just shaking, it is dissolving into shadow.
The Child
We cannot stay here. Look at the trees, they are turning to glass.
Taydo looks up. The horizon beyond the ancient roots ripples like a disturbed pond, turning the vibrant green of the forest into jagged, monochromatic shards.

Survive the forest turning to crystal
“Use the energy left in the choking nearby plants to choke and shatter the crystal”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled -1)
Taydo
The local flora still holds a fragment of the forest's dying life force.
Taydo slams his staff into the earth, drawing deep upon the tangled, suffocating vines. He weaves a frantic spell of constriction.
The twisted plants surge outward, wrapping around the jagged glass trunks with crushing pressure. With a final, guttural roar, Taydo pulses his magic through the vines.
The crystalline forest shatters into a million harmless dust motes. The reality-warping corruption snaps as the brittle structures disintegrate.
The Child
The sky... it stopped falling. You broke the spell.
The Child
But the roots beneath us are still glowing violet, Taydo. Are we going to be swallowed next?

Survive the forest turning to crystal
“I push toward the surface with the child”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled -2)
Taydo
The ground here is thinning like parchment.
Taydo scoops up The Child, tucking him securely against his shell. With a powerful surge of his legs, he leaps toward the patch of sky visible through the splintered canopy.
His massive weight tears through the decaying root system, clearing a path through the debris. The earth yields, showering them in dirt and sunlight.
The Child
We are out! The air, it actually smells like pine needles again.
They tumble onto the soft moss of the outer forest floor. Behind them, the Great Oak gives one final, hollow shudder and collapses into a pile of gray ash.
The Child
Look, Taydo. There is something shining in the wreckage where you dug us out.
