A late-night diner hums under fluorescent light, chrome trim, cracked red booths, and the smell of coffee and fryer oil. Don Capozzi sits across from Joey in a back booth, the rest of the world muted behind rain-streaked glass.
Joey lazily nudges food around a plate, barely looking up as Don arrives. The tension from Tommy’s office feels far away here, buried under clinking silverware and soft kitchen noise.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
You found me. I saw something useful, too. A fancy car by the docks, not one of ours.

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
The docks and a strange car. That is not nothing.

The Waitress
Coffee for the two of you? You look like you could use it.
She sets down two mugs, careful and professional, then lingers just long enough to catch the edge of the conversation before drifting away.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
Black sedan, shiny as hell. Parked like somebody expected to be there.
Joey finally looks up, the food forgotten for once, and the diner’s steady noise presses in around the new lead.
“I ask Joey who else knows the docks”
SUCCESS (Great Diplomacy, rolled +0)
Joey wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and finally gives Don a straight look. The diner keeps humming around them, but his attention stays put.

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
Who else knows the docks?

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
Besides us? Enough people to make trouble. Longshore guys, the night clerk, maybe a trucker or two who should not be talking.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
If you mean who really knows the patterns, the schedule, the bad habits, that narrows it. Somebody with access, somebody close to the paperwork.
He taps the table once near the coffee mug, then glances toward the front windows as if measuring how far that answer travels.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
You want names, ask Tommy for the log pull. You want a face, I can give you one: the diner manager sees more dock traffic than he lets on.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
And if the car was waiting like that, somebody knew where Delaro would be before he did.
“"Congratulations, Joey. For once in your life you've been useful to this organization." I say before asking the waitress if i can speak to the manager.”
SUCCESS (Great Diplomacy, rolled +1)

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
Congratulations, Joey. For once in your life you are useful to this organization.
Don lets the praise land with a dry, almost amused weight, then turns to the waitress without raising his voice.

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
Could I speak with the manager?

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
Yeah. That was mean, but fair enough.

The Waitress
He is in the back office. I can get him, or you can ask him yourself if you want to wait a minute.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
He actually listened. That is rarer than the coffee being hot.
Joey leans back, not offended so much as oddly relieved, while the waitress shifts her grip on the pot and waits on Don's answer.
“I wait for the manager in the booth”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -1)

Don stays in the booth, still and unreadable, letting the diner noise do the waiting for him. Joey watches him from across the table, then looks away as if he has already said enough for one night.
The waitress slips toward the back office, and the swing door settles behind her. Coffee steam drifts between the booths, thin as smoke.

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
The manager is in back.
Joey taps one finger against the tabletop, restless now that the conversation has stopped moving. He glances toward the kitchen door, then back at Don.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
If the manager saw that sedan, he may remember who was asking about the docks.
A truck grumbles past outside, shaking the window glass. In the booth, the silence turns from casual to purposeful.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
You want me in on this, or do you want me to stay out of the way?
“I creepy looking fellow like you can be useful in interrogations. If he refuses to talk i want you to act like you'll eat him.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
A face like yours is useful in an interrogation. If he clamps up, stand there and look hungry.
Joey stops tapping the table. He gives Don a thin, crooked nod, the kind that says he understands the job and the insult both.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
Yeah. I can do that.
The waitress reappears in the doorway of the back office and pauses, one hand on the frame, reading the room before she speaks. The coffee pot rattles once on the counter behind her.

The Waitress
Manager says he heard about the black sedan, and he wants to know who’s asking.
Joey leans back, jaw set now, letting the idea of him sit heavy beside Don instead of inside it. The booth feels smaller with the back office watching.
“Don Capozzi is asking. And he hates waiting.”
FAILURE (Legendary Willpower, rolled -4)

Don lets the silence stretch just long enough to sting. The waitress waits by the doorway, and Joey stays planted in the booth, taking the measure of the room instead of the man behind the door.

Donatello "Don" Capozzi
Then tell him Don Capozzi is asking.
The name lands, but not cleanly. The waitress’s chin lifts a fraction, more cautious than impressed, and the coffee pot hisses behind the counter like it has something to say.

The Waitress
He says that still does not answer who should care.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
He wants Don to push harder, but not at the kid on the door. At the man in back.
Joey shifts forward, elbows near the table edge, not quite volunteering but no longer hiding from the moment. The red-circled mark on the dock manifest flashes in Don’s memory, along with the name Maurice Delaro and the fact that somebody still protects him.

Joseph "Joey" Capozzi
I can stay here and make him nervous, or I can go with you and hear what he knows.
✓ Quest Accepted
Get the diner manager to talk about the black sedan
“Nod at Joey to follow me and force our way into the manager's office.”
SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled -3)

Don answers with a small nod and pushes out of the booth. Joey follows the motion without a word, chair legs scraping once over the tile.
The waitress straightens away from the doorway, gives them a wary look, and steps aside as Don leads the way down the narrow aisle.
They reach the back office door together. Don catches the knob, turns it, and the door swings inward.

The Waitress
He asked who wants to know, and now he gets both of you.
Joey plants himself behind Don, jaw set, filling the doorway enough to make the cramped office feel smaller than it is.

The Manager
I know about the black sedan. If you are here for that, shut the door and listen.
The manager’s hand is already on a desk drawer, and the red-circled manifest copy lies faceup beside it, waiting for Don’s next move.
