Beneath the blue ward-stones, Raedwulf remains beside Tavin while the Trisyran note rests sealed in Marra’s keeping. Winter light lies pale across the new house yard.
Raedwulf
Raedwulf drafts a letter bearing the phrase, “When the Red Howls,” and gives it to the courier. The true message must be delivered verbally to Siveril: send his wife and young daughter, Aenwyn, ahead to Willowmere as though visiting a sick family friend.
the courier
I will repeat the instruction exactly, and show the letter only to Siveril. No written copy of the true message will travel with me.
Sava, Veyra, and Tavin move to the covered table, arranging their Willowmere meeting and checking the names needed for safe-passage papers to Hearthhollow. Tavin keeps watch without leaving the gathering.
Sava
We will meet them before Siveril follows. His family needs a lawful road, a harmless reason for travel, and witnesses ready when they arrive.
Veyra
I can prepare the route details and compare the papers against the old treaty forms. Willowmere must recognize them before anyone questions their passage.
Marra and Dorran record the arrangement in the household ledger, assigning watch rotations and preserving the sealed note. The courier waits at the gate, ready for Raedwulf’s final instruction.

Deliver Raedwulf’s true message to Siveril
Director's notewhole tale
Raedwulf tell Tavin to go with the courier, and help escorts Siveril's wife and daughter. But tell him to travel not barring his guild colors. As if might attract suspicion
Raedwulf walks up beside Tavin and rests an arm across his shoulders like an old friend. His calm gaze settles on Marra and Dorran.
Raedwulf
How far is the land from Hearthhollow? Can my household inspect the territory?
the Hearthhollow matron
The nearest boundary lies beyond the western rise, less than a day’s walk. Your household may inspect it under Hearthhollow’s protection, provided the survey is recorded.
Raedwulf finishes marking the agreed symbol on the survey cloth, then asks Sava to follow him to a nearby hill while the others continue measuring the territory.
the clerk
I will record Elian Var’s final comment exactly: the Venn holding was abandoned, while Hearthhollow preserved and protected the land before the claim returned.
Dame Olyra Venn
I hear the concern. House Venn will not press its claim against your household or Hearthhollow’s compact.
On the hill, Sava kneels beside Raedwulf as he sits facing the western rise. Below, Olyra and the clerks continue the survey beneath the blue ward-stones.
Raedwulf
Ease your concerns, both of you. Sava, keep the household steady. Olyra, let the record and the compact guide this, not fear.
Tavin Rusk
I will go with the courier and help escort Siveril’s wife and daughter. I will travel without my guild colors, so suspicion does not follow us.

Escort Siveril’s wife and daughter to safety
Director's notewhole tale
I send Tavin with the courier to escort Siveril’s family to Willowmere.
Tavin removes his guild clasp and hands it to Marra for safekeeping. The courier mounts, while he takes the unmarked escort cloak and checks the western road.
Raedwulf
Travel without guild colors. Help the courier bring Siveril’s wife and Aenwyn safely to Willowmere, then wait for further word.
Tavin Rusk
Understood. No guild name, no unnecessary questions, and no written message beyond what the courier carries. I will get them there safely.
The courier leads Tavin through the gate and onto the winter road. Behind them, Marra seals the clasp in the ledger chest, preserving both his identity and his caution.
Sava
You send protection without turning it into a challenge. That is wise. Siveril’s family may reach Willowmere before his enemies understand what moved them.
From the hill, Raedwulf watches the two riders diminish beyond the western rise. Below, Olyra and the clerks finish marking the boundary while blue ward-stones brighten along the surveyed ground.
Dame Olyra Venn
Your household protects its own without abandoning the law. I begin to understand why this canton chose you as its voice.
Director's note
I look at Olya with a confidence smirk, and speak in a calm voice
“"A good hunter knows how to not disturb the chorus of the forest. To do so, only invites a failed hunt. And your prey is long gone"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +1)
Raedwulf
A good hunter knows not to disturb the forest’s chorus. Do so, and the hunt fails. Your prey is already long gone.
Raedwulf’s words carry softly over the hill, leaving the distant surveyors and winter woods undisturbed. Below, blue ward-stones glimmer among the grass.
Sava
Then we will not chase shadows. If Siveril moved his family wisely, the road to Willowmere is already their safest trail.
Dame Olyra Venn
He speaks of a hunt, but means every power watching this household. Patience is his warning, and perhaps his strongest weapon.
Sava remains kneeling beside Raedwulf, ears angled toward the quiet road. Far below, Olyra’s escort pauses at the boundary stones, careful not to break the household’s measured rhythm.
Sava
The forest has kept its silence, nephew. Let us keep ours until the courier reaches Willowmere and the truth has somewhere lawful to stand.
Director's notewhole tale
I await the courier’s confirmation from Willowmere, after a few days. I'd been waiting and watching for his return in Hearthhollow's gate
Several days pass beneath hard winter skies. Raedwulf waits at Hearthhollow’s gate, watching the western road while blue ward-stones glow along the surveyed boundary.
A courier appears beyond the rise, cloak powdered with frost. Behind her, Tavin rides without guild colors, escorting a covered wagon toward the gate.
the courier
Willowmere received the phrase and opened its safe passage. Siveril’s wife and daughter are sheltered with a sick family friend, exactly as instructed.
Tavin Rusk
No one followed us. Siveril’s wife kept the story simple, and Aenwyn never saw the sealed letter. They are safe for now.
Dame Olyra stands beside the gatepost, her crimson mantle stirring in the wind. She studies Raedwulf’s confident smile, then glances toward the arriving wagon.
Raedwulf
Good. Ease your concerns, Sava and Olyra. The family is protected, and the record will guide what comes next.
Raedwulf
I told you, my lady. Patience is stronger than panic. Now let us see what Siveril sends after them.

I question the courier about Siveril’s reply
The courier dismounts beside Hearthhollow’s gate, frost silvering her cloak. Tavin remains with the covered wagon while the household gathers beneath the blue ward-stones.
Raedwulf
What reply did Siveril send?
the courier
He received the phrase and understood. He says the register and second order are secured, but he will not move until his family reaches Willowmere safely.
the courier
He also sends this: the original household register names your mother, and Solianna’s order bears a seal used only for commands issued within House Trisyran.
Sava’s ears angle toward the sealed packet. Olyra’s guarded expression hardens, while Tavin checks the road behind the wagon for pursuit.
Dame Olyra Venn
Then Siveril has preserved evidence that can survive scrutiny. Willowmere must protect it before Trisyran learns where the copies are held.
Raedwulf looks to Olyra with a confident smirk, the winter wind stirring his fur as the wagon passes beneath Hearthhollow’s gate.
