The Spires fall still at last, their inward lean held in a brittle hush. Eladrin turns to Kaelith, and the memory of the archive’s scorching ward hangs between them, suddenly sharp with meaning.

Eladrin

Eladrin

What did you remember when you saw the pattern beneath the mark? And why did my vision show you dead beneath the mechanism at Ithryon?

Kaelith goes very pale. His hand drifts to his chest, as if he can feel something buried there answering the question.

Kaelith

Kaelith

Not a memory. Fragments. A room of silver light, hands guiding mine, names I do not know I know. I was not born to be a witness, Eladrin. I was made into one.

Kaelith

The vision of my death was not failure. It was the shape of the rite. The mechanism needed a living record at its heart, a life turned into proof, then spent to wake the seal.

Liora draws a slow breath, staring from Kaelith to Eladrin’s faded scar. The old scorch on the sleeve, the burned palm, the hidden seal, all of it clicks into one merciless pattern.

So the archive marked you both. Eladrin was the key, and Kaelith was the record it meant to consume.

Kaelith looks up at the distant seam of light, his composure finally gone. The Spires answer with a faint, resonant hum, as if something below them has just recognized the name of the missing piece.

Learn how Eladrin’s actions began the tragedy

I step closer to Kaelith, but do not touch him. “You said you were made into a witness. By whom, by the divine, by whom!?” I glance toward the humming Spires. “And before they made you one, who were you?”

Eladrin steps in close, stopping short of contact. His voice stays low beneath the Spires’ faint hum, but the question lands cleanly.

Eladrin

Eladrin

You said you were made into a witness. By whom? And before that, who were you?

Kaelith’s throat works. He looks toward the seam of light overhead, then back to Eladrin’s scar as if measuring how much truth it will take.

Kaelith

Kaelith

By the Keeper, and by those who built the rite before the Spires were quiet. I was given no choice, only a place to stand when the record was made.

Kaelith

Kaelith

Before that, I was a scribe of the Court archives. Not noble. Not important. I copied ledgers, sealed notices, and learned which names people tried to bury.

Liora’s gaze sharpens, and the dormant silver lines at their feet catch the dim light as Kaelith keeps speaking.

Kaelith

Kaelith

The rite took me because I had the skill to hold what others wanted hidden. Your action at Ithryon did not summon me, Eladrin. It exposed me. I was already inside the pattern.

The answer settles in the stillness. Kaelith’s face tightens with the weight of it, and Eladrin’s scar gives off a brief, ember-red pulse as the Spires answer with one deeper note from below.
