Aeru stands inside the narrow chamber, katana lowered but ready, his wounded arm tightly bound. Silver dust blankets the floor and glitters beneath each measured breath.
Behind him, the wounded traveler remains within the chamber, while the wolves and their fallen leader stay beyond the warded passage. No paws cross the blue threshold.
The painted map stirs without wind. Its central Kensae sigil pours pale light along a concealed route branching beneath the depicted roads, then gathers at a stone door.
Fresh footprints mark the silver dust from the chamber entrance to that door. Ancient bolts withdraw one after another, grinding softly through stone.
Maelin Veyr
The name is not merely remembered. It is showing you where to go.
A narrow seam opens in the door, releasing air that smells of rain, buried cedar, and something faintly metallic. Blue light flickers beyond the gap.
Maelin Veyr
I followed you beneath the road, swordsman. Whatever waits there, we face the threshold together, unless you choose otherwise.

“"Do you have a name?"”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +2)
Aeru Kensae
Do you have a name?
The wounded traveler looks from Aeru to the glowing Kensae sigil. For the first time since the wolves, her guarded expression eases.
Maelin Veyr
I do. My name is Maelin Veyr.
She touches two fingers to the torn edge of her green cloak, then glances toward the open stone door and its rain-scented darkness.
Maelin Veyr
Maelin Veyr, courier of the western roads. I was following those footprints before the wolves found me.
Maelin Veyr
If the door bears his name, then my message has reached the right swordsman.
Maelin Veyr
Now you know who walks beside you, Aeru Kensae. Beyond that threshold, I suspect the road knows us both.
“"Stay wary, Maelin Veyr." I say as I advance forward”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled -3)
Aeru Kensae
Stay wary, Maelin Veyr.
Aeru advances through the open stone door, katana lowered but ready. Blue light spills across wet black stone, and the air carries rain, buried cedar, and iron.
Maelin Veyr
I have survived this far by doing exactly that. Keep moving, swordsman.
Maelin follows across the threshold. Behind them, the ancient door grinds shut, sealing away the chamber, the silver map, and the warded road.
The passage opens into a vaulted corridor lined with dark cedar ribs. Thin streams of water fall from the ceiling, striking the stone with hollow, deliberate taps.
Maelin Veyr
There. The footprints continue, but something has disturbed the dust beside them.
Aeru’s bound arm throbs as the damp loosens the knot. A fresh stain spreads beneath the cloth, while the blue light ahead reveals three branching paths.
