Black water boils up through the cavern floor, climbing the ledge in oily sheets. Khardoom stands between Shakazar and the only dry path, one hand lifted toward the fungus bundle at his side. Below, the Ashen Way Scouts scramble for purchase as the sinkhole gulps louder and faster.

Khardoom
Hand over the harvest, druid. The flood is already choosing for you.

Sister Mael
Do not trust her, Shakazar. She means to strip the rite and leave us to drown.
Mael, half-crouched at the ledge edge, keeps one wing-like arm tight around the hidden moss rite. The scouts shout from below, their lanterns bobbing like fireflies in stormwater.

The Ashen Way Scouts
Up there, help us! The tunnel is going!

Khardoom
Let them call. I only need what grows in your kit.
The cavern shudders. A fresh surge slaps the stone, and a narrow tongue of fungus on the ledge glows under the spray, fragile but vivid. Shakazar’s collection kit hangs ready at his hip, and every rival in the cave watches his next move.
One choice remains, take the mushrooms, protect the rite, or force a path through both rivals before the flood claims the ledge.
“Shakazar touches the stone cavern wall and concentrating very hard he attempts to create an escape route through the rock and stone”
SUCCESS (Good Arcana, rolled +1)

Shakazar plants his palm on the cold wall and draws a breath through his teeth. The stone answers with a low groan, and a seam opens where there was none, cracking wide enough for lightless air to spill through.
Dust and grit burst across the ledge. The new opening yawns to the side, a rough passage through the rock, just large enough for a crouched escape.

Khardoom
So. You do have a way out.

Sister Mael
Move, Shakazar. Before she turns it against us.
The flood slaps harder at the stone, and the ledge sheds pebbles into the black water. Khardoom shifts her stance toward the opening, cold patience sharpening into intent.

Shakazar Frambling
The wall holds, but it takes something from him.
Behind him, the rough corridor breathes damp air into the cavern. Ahead, the way is open, but only for someone who moves now.

Water thundered through the mine mouth as Shakazar opened the cracked wall wider, just enough for a breath of passage.

Sister Mael
Go now. Let the flood take the greed behind you.

Khardoom
Coward's trick. Run with your mold while you can.

The Ashen Way Scouts
Shakazar, please! The tunnel's falling!

Shakazar Frambling
Then live. I have fed the rite enough.
Shakazar Frambling fled through the narrow breach with mud on his boots and loss in his hands. Behind him, the mine sealed under flood and stone, denying rivals, ransom, and the old hunger alike. The moss rite endured, changed by sacrifice, and the mountain kept its secret in darkness.
