Pell leads you along an old branch of the family route while Kael and Mira remain near the lodge boundary. The redwoods close around the narrow path.
He stops before two half-buried stones engraved with nearly erased household marks. Freshly disturbed soil and scraped moss show that someone searched the threshold recently.
Pell
These marks belonged to your family’s route. The Ashen Eye found this place, but they have not opened it yet.
When you bring the amber bead near the stones, a narrow seam between them glows gold. Faint lines awaken beneath the worn carvings, answering the bead’s hidden rune.
Pell
The bead is a key-signal, not the key itself. Set it into the seam, and the stones will release their latch from within.
Pell crouches beside the disturbed threshold without touching it. His gloved fingers indicate a shallow groove leading away through the roots, toward the lodge’s distant direction.
Pell
Opening it will leave a waking trace in the stone. Whoever planted the search marks may follow that trace straight back to your home.

“I set the amber bead into the glowing seam between the stones.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)
You press the amber bead into the glowing seam. It fits with a soft click, and golden light runs through both stones, tracing their buried household marks.
The earth gives a quiet shudder. Moss loosens from the threshold as the stones part inward, revealing a narrow stair descending beneath the family route.
Pell
It opened. The trace is awake now, exactly as I warned, but the vault is accessible.
Warm gold spills across the first steps and illuminates old carvings beneath the soil. The hidden passage lies open, its air carrying dust, stone, and a faint metallic chill.
Pell
Whatever your father sealed below, it has waited undisturbed for years. We should learn what it is before anyone follows the waking trail.
Behind you, the disturbed threshold now shines plainly through the redwood shadows. Before you, the stair descends into the vault your family kept hidden.
