Pell remains beyond the spring’s stone rim while you hold Wraith-blade ready, its chain stretched between you. Behind you, the lean young man and the slight young woman wait near the lodge boundary, while the dark-scaled deinonychus and the black-and-silver harpy eagle remain with the household.
Pell
The Ashen Eye is searching for a sealed passage beneath your family’s route. They believe it leads somewhere your father hid from them.
Mist curls around the spring stones. Pell keeps his scarred left palm visible, but his weight stays balanced for retreat, and his ash-worked gloves remain untouched by his weapons.
Pell
My knowledge has a price. Give me one honest answer: what do you intend to do with the route if you find it?
The question hangs beneath the redwoods. It could be a test from the Ashen Eye, a frightened man’s attempt to protect himself, or a bargain meant to turn both sides against each other.
Pell
Answer plainly, and I will tell you what was sealed, who wants it opened, and why your family’s name has returned to the Ashen Eye’s attention.

Depending on what’s in it, I would either let the Eye have it, or do what I can to keep them from it.
You snap the weight toward yourself. The chain coils around your forearm in a controlled sweep, but its sudden pull bites hard through the feathers and leaves your grip trembling.
Wraith-blade settles close against your side, secured beneath your arm. The movement costs you a sharp tightening through your strained body, but you remain upright and in control.
Pell
That is an honest answer. You would not surrender power merely because someone claims an older right to it.
The hooded man’s balanced stance eases by a fraction. Across the clearing, the lean young man watches him closely while the slight young woman keeps her attention on the dark between the redwoods.
Pell
Then listen carefully. Beneath your family’s route lies a vault, and the Ashen Eye wants what your father sealed inside. Serik Vale helped them search for its key.
