Damp pre-dawn air hits COOL ARROW as he steps out of the cooper's shed. Mud sucks at the river road, and the dark forest beyond stands still in a way that feels wrong.

Mara
The ward is gone, but the woods are listening. We move before that silence learns our names.
Mara leads them off the road and into the trees, where wet fern fronds brush their legs and the river's cold breath fades behind them. The ground rises into a narrow deer track, hidden under roots and moss.

Vesper
Good. Fewer eyes here. Bad footing, though.

COOL ARROW
The track is older than the road, and used often enough to stay open.
The path bends toward a half-collapsed stone culvert, its mouth choked with black water and reeds. A faint blue sheen lingers on the stones, like old magic washed thin by rain.

The Child
This way. Mother used to hide things near crossings like this.
They reach the culvert together, the forest pressing close around them as the river road disappears behind a curtain of trunks.

Find the hidden hiding place near the crossings
“We reach the river crossing but we cover the sent of the satchel and cover necklace in mud first the we look for loose masonry out of place”
SUCCESS (Good Survival, rolled +0)

Cool Arrow kneels at the culvert mouth and smears mud over the satchel cords and the travel charm, darkening anything that might catch a watcher’s eye.
He drags wet silt across the necklace at his throat, then works the same grime into his gloves and sleeves until the bright edges go dull.

COOL ARROW
The mud holds the scent and breaks the shine.
Mara keeps watch as he tests the stones beside the black water, fingers probing for seams where the mortar has shifted.
One slab near the culvert’s inner curve sits crooked, and the damp around it looks fresher than the rest, as if something beneath has been opened before.
Cool Arrow pries at the loose masonry and finds a narrow hollow packed with oilskin, river-salt, and a wrapped bundle hidden tight against the cold stone.

The Child
That was here before. Mother would have checked this place.
The group pauses at the culvert, mud-slick and listening, with the hidden cache uncovered and the next move hanging on whatever else the crossing is hiding.
