Abby drops into a wider service junction, the shaft opening into a crossroads of coolant pipes, vent grates, and dim strip lighting. The air is colder here, but only by a little, and the whole space vibrates with a low industrial hum.

Her massive frame shudders with strain as she clears the ladder and settles onto the grated floor. Arthur lands beside her, already looking up at the junction’s central terminal and the web of pipes feeding it.

He moves to the terminal with quick, practiced hands, tablet flashing blue against the dark metal. A warning light blinks once, then steadies, as the facility’s monitoring system catches their presence and keeps listening.

The vents exhale a thin draft across Abby’s skin while the pipes rattle overhead. For a moment, the junction holds its breath, waiting to see whether Arthur can wrestle the controls before the strain in the walls gives out.

Abby straightens from the grate and goes still, every muscle locked into place. The floor beneath her answers with a faint, steadier hum, as if her weight finally has somewhere safe to go.
