Serum Bound and Breaking Point

The tunnel walls keep trembling as the lockdown shifts into a hunt. Red laser grids sweep the maintenance loft, skimming past Arthur and flaring hard when they cross Abby’s massive frame.

Dust spills from the cracked wall in thin gray streams. Abby’s breath comes heavier now, her shoulders tight with the strain of carrying a body the serum keeps rebuilding.

Arthur’s tablet stays dark in his hands, useless against the sweep. The loft’s metal braces groan as another pulse washes over Abby, then rebounds as if the building itself rejects the scan.

The hunt narrows. Every pass of the red grid confirms the same thing, Abby is not being tracked by location anymore, she is the target.

Abby tears the wall panel free in one wrenching pull, and a nest of thin conduit spills into her hands.

Red scan light catches the exposed bundle. Arthur flinches back as the tablet gives a sharp warning whine.

Abby jams the wiring against the bent brace, forcing current into the frame. Sparks jump, then crawl outward in a bright stutter across the loft wall.

The next laser pass skews, drifts, and fractures into false returns, spilling over dust and steel instead of locking on her body.

For the first time, Abby’s outline slips out of the grid’s center. The hunt loses its clean line of sight, and the loft fills with crackling light.
